you really think the current path this team is on is sustainable? and you really think coburn can put a team in the playoffs by himself? - 2Real
What is the current path exactly?
Making Streit or MacDonald play on the first pairing with 39 year old Kimmo is not sustainable for a playoff team. They would get killed by other teams top lines due to their lack of size and speed.
Trading Grossmann to a team like Minnesota for a pick makes a lot more sense if the Flyers really want to use LTIR Option 1. |

is $3 million really all that much after a lifetime earnings of over $100 million? |

easiest way to solve the cap issue is to trade coburn for picks - 2Real
Yeah I want to trade the most mobile durable minute eating dman for picks. the level of underappreciation there is for Coburn blows my mind sometimes. |

I would think a lot would depend on health. Why cripple himself when he gets a $1.76 million check every year from 2016 until 2026 from Tampa. That would be after making about $91 million. |

Yeah, trading your best defender on a defensively challenged team, who also happens to have a great cap hit and is still in his 20s, is always the best option.

It's the anecdotal poop that really fuels the Coburn hate... yeah, it seems like he's on the ice for a LOT of goals against... but only because he's on the ice a LOT and almost always out against the other team's best players.
Try putting AMac or Luke Schenn or Grossmann out there against OV/Malkin/Stamkos for 20min/game.... I suspect people would start to appreciate just how good of a job Coburn has been doing of keeping those kinds of players in check. |

Honestly, I am really hoping this happens. I know that it probably won't, but I'd love to see a guy like Mark Alt make the team and then force Hexy to move one of Grossmann, Schenn or Macdonald. Wishful thinking, I know. - mcefalu
Alt is never going to "knock them over the head". He's perfectly capable of playing in Grossmann's spot but he is never going to push him out of a job. |

Never? I didn't realize it was impossible. So you've seen him play quite a bit then, I assume. |

I watched a lot of Phantoms games last year. If they traded Grossmann Alt could eat his minutes. I'm not saying he can't play in the NHL, he probably could but I don't think he can force their hand. He's not at that level.
Some of the other kids will force their hand at some point. They'll probably be that good. Alt will probably aspire to solid. |

If he can be a solid 3rd pair guy, that'd be fine with me. He's got good size & seems fairly mobile. Teams can do a lot worse than that. |

If Vinny is on this team I am going to root for him and hope he does well. I hope that Uber Douchbag Cataldi doesnt try to lead some sort of charge to rip on him every day - MBFlyerfan
I heard him ripping the Sixers this morning even though Noel has looked like a stud in Summer League and Embiid's doctor says he'll be back 100% and should be able to have a long career.
He says these things to get the masses worked up. He's like the Skip Bayless of Philly. |
