If he can be a solid 3rd pair guy, that'd be fine with me. He's got good size & seems fairly mobile. Teams can do a lot worse than that.

Well, they gave up a lot to get him

What if Alt becomes better than Luke Schenn?

I heard him ripping the Sixers this morning even though Noel has looked like a stud in Summer League and Embiid's doctor says he'll be back 100% and should be able to have a long career.

He says these things to get the masses worked up. He's like the Skip Bayless of Philly.

Jeez, Luke Pither gets no respect.

I've only seen Alt a few times, but his play reminds me a lot of Tom Gilbert. Tall, mobile, good puck skills. Will never wow you but is solid. In essence, he could be better than Luke Schenn.

Always struck me as a bit of an Andrew Alberts... nice tools, questionable toolbox.

That shouldn't be hard...

Alt would be cheaper for a few years

Got to be tough on the kid coming from such good genetic stock...that his ceiling sounds like a bit player.

Now imagine being Messier's kid...he is downright horrendous. That has to be tough to live down.

Just for discussion. We want to move Vinny. More because of the fit then anything. We could use a natural winger. So what about this then.

Vinny to TO for Lupal?

Contract length is the same. More money for Lupal but the fit is better and he can still give you offense.

Yeah, I think so. His best shot is an injury call up I think. He gets a few games to show what he has and they decide they can afford to move Grossmann or one of the other defenders and give him those minutes. I have confidence in him. I was surprised he didn't get a sniff last season but I guess with carrying Gus and Gill there wasn't room.

Most definitely. I'd love to see him knock camp out of the park and bump Grossmann (and his contract) out of the picture a year early.

Really doubt he has the IQ/puck-skills to touch a Tom Gilbert, though.

The fact that the Flyers had no injuries on D last year was probably why he didn't get a sniff. I'd be fine with it. Give him a chance, dump some cash off the cap.

They can't give Vinny away, doubt the Leafs trade Lupul, who has been solid for them when healthy.

So, cause I have some time on my hands, here is my Top Ten Flyer's playmakers of all time.

1. Bobby Clarke
Cmon, back to back years of 89 assists?? Clarke was an amazing passer who made every guy he skated with that much better. Seriously, you think Reggie Leach is scoring 60 goals in Oakland or Bill Flett is potting 43 playing with anyone else?

2. Peter Forsberg
He was only here for a very short time, but man this guy could pass the puck! Foppa was an awesome combo of soft hands and fantastic hockey sense.

3. Claude Giroux
Another guy that knows how to thread the needle, he is especially lethal on the pp.

4. Mark Recchi
Not only was he a great playmaker, but he knew when to pass and when to shoot which is a skill that really can't be taught.

5. Eric Lindros
People remember the goals and hits, but the Big E was a fantastic playmaker as well.

6. Mark Howe
His hockey sense was off the charts and he was one of the most accurate passers I have ever had the pleasure to watch.

7. Bill Barber
One of the best all around forwards of his generation, Barber was an excellent passer.

8. Chris Pronger
Another guy who knew when to fire the puck or when to dish it off. He set up plays from the point as well as anyone who ever wore a Flyers jersey.

9. Ken Linseman
In his one full healthy season playing with "The Rat", Paul Holmgren scored 30 goals. Linseman had great hockey sense and soft hands and probably would have had some 100 point seasons if he didn't spend so much time in the box.

10. Jaromir Jagr
Wasn't here long and was far past his prime, but Jags was still a fantastic passer and almost impossible to separate from the puck along the wall.

Just missed the cut:
Andre Lacroix
Rick Macleish
Rod Brind'amour
Jake Voracek

You may now return to arguing about VL, the cap and Corsi numbers.

They aren't going to move Lupul despite his injuries. They love that guy up there. They could use Vinny but that's not a direction that front office is going. They sound a lot like the Flyers now. Hanging on to youth and developing long term through the draft. Trading for Vinny would be out of their current character.

I think, IMO, the best trading partner right now is Ottawa. The need a center and a face to sell tickets.

He had a decent 2nd half, struggled badly early. He's still capable of being a solid guy, doubt he ever reaches the expectations from when he was drafted. If Alt can replace him, at least it's cap savings

I haven't seen him much either. I hear the same things you mentioned above. It'd be sad if he was our top D prospect, but as the 5th guy, I'd be happy with him anywhere in the top 6.

As Bill pointed out, I missed Pelle Eklund who I would slot in at 9th, dropping Linseman to 10th and Jags to Honorable mention

I agree with all of this.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vinny flexed his NMC muscles and nixed a trade to Ottawa, however.

I'd rather see Grossmann go before Schenn, but I agree with your premise
