He had a decent 2nd half, struggled badly early. He's still capable of being a solid guy, doubt he ever reaches the expectations from when he was drafted. If Alt can replace him, at least it's cap savings
- Jsaquella

I dont know much about Mark Alt but I am going to have to assume he isnt ready to replace Schenn. I think Schenn is getting better too. Have to remember that he is still young and defenders take time to round into form.

Not sure why this is even a topic. Vinnie wasn't and isn't going anywhere because nobody wants to take on his contract. It would be a huge mistake to trade him AND eat part of the contract. Yes money wise it isn't that bad for a 20 goal scorer but the length of the contract is killer. If Vinnie had signed for 2 or maybe 3 years this wouldn't even be a topic of conversation but fact is the Flyers are stuck with him and probably only get one or maybe 2 decent years out of him if he stays healthy.

I'd rather see Grossmann go before Schenn, but I agree with your premise
- BiggE

Agreed. I'd rather keep Schenn because he's younger, been more durable & can still potentially get better. Grossmann is what he is

If it wasn't for the injuries I'd be looking to keep Grossmann over Luke.

I think he is better in his role, a limited role that both players share.

Luke will probably end up pricing himself out of Philly imo. He makes 3.6 at this point already.

Personally I think if he is healthy he is a weapon. He must be used in the right spot. 4th line center or on the wing isnt going to cut it. Should have never been signed but since he was it is up to Berube to put him in a position of success. #1 PP minutes and 2nd line center.

They need to give Schenn some tougher minutes next year. I would rather see how he handles things than throw Amac into that position.

This is assuming the team cuts back on Timonen's tough minutes.

He might not be, hard to be sure since he's never played a NHL game.

I'm not ripping Schenn. He is still young and can become more consistent. He wasn't done any favors by Toronto rushing him

As Bill pointed out, I missed Pelle Eklund who I would slot in at 9th, dropping Linseman to 10th and Jags to Honorable mention

Yea he was a solid assist guy.

Term is an issue. And while Vinny can still produce goals, he's a bad fit for the system the team is using. If he's here, Berube will have to figure out an effective way to use him, which might mean juggling the lines.

I'd be inboard with that, still think he needs a solid partner to be effective.

The Flyers do not have a lot of speed on the wings, so having a slower center becomes more of an issue. A team like the rangers, lightning, senators, or oilers with speed to burn (especially on the wings) could probably get good value out of Vinny for all four years of his deal.

The real rub comes with his NMC and the fact that we are dealing from what others view as a position of weakness. If I think I could get you to eat a good chunk of salary because your back is against the wall, then I will do that. So, we wait to see if other teams will fold or we do (whether by eating salary or keeping Vinny).

I would be okay with any outcome where we don't retain significant salary.

I wish Kimmo could still be here to bring along our rooks when they make the jump. Coburn is the closest thing to a show you the ropes veteran defender after him.

Mark Streit has been a leader (either a captain or an assistant) on both the Islanders and the Habs, fwiw. I think he's pretty well respected outside of internet message boards.

Streit has leadership, but as far as someone I want the rookies to emulate I would much prefer Timonen.

Maybe if he gets his f'n body fat down below double digits and commits to fitness we may see a glimpse of "what might be".

I posted this in both the Sabres' and Predators' blogs:

If the Sabres get 2 picks in the top 5 next year, with one of them being #1, do you trade the #1 and Myers to Nashville for Weber?

So far, not many responses. One in the Preds and two in the Sabres. All three said no.

If Myers make big progress next year, I would side with the Sabres not making that deal.

until Vinny is gone, it's up too the coach to adapt his system to the players they have! If Berube can't do that, then get rid of him as head coach. This isn't the first rodeo for a coach to try and get the flyers players to be better at skating, where are they now? A big stink is being made about Vinny but others must be an isuse to because those coaches are gone

And now, 2 poll questions for the day

1. Most beloved player who never played for the Flyers. Can be from any era.
and
2. Most hated player who never played for the Flyers. Can also be from any era.

My choices are:
1. Gordie Howe
2. Tomas Sandstrom

Yours?
