Did it ever occur to you that Sidney Crosby is NOT the only player ever to embellish in a hockey game? Whine Gretzky used to do it all the time. There were several Rangers who did it this year in the post season, and I believe a few Canadiens as well. Diving is becoming an increasing problem in the NHL. The NHL must do something about it before it grows to the level of the Italians in soccer. I swear you would have thought snipers were lining the tops of the stadiums at the WC in Brazil.
So what do we do to stop the diving? First, HOW ABOUT HAVING THE REFS ACTUALLY CALL THE PENALTIES ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!!! If players did not believe that the stripes will let typical penalties go, then there would be no need to dive! Include here, as well, the need to assess the diving penalty--and accompanying fines and suspensions-- don't be afraid to dish that out; the NHL can review and remove the fine/suspension if it turns out to be incorrect. |

please. hockey players flop all over the place now. - Fountain-San
As a Vancouver Canucks fan. Yes they do. But hockey players dive Maybe twice a game. In soccer. Your looking at like close to 20 flops a game. Night and day. I hate it in soccer which is why I dont watch the sport. I hate it in hockey and cringe when I see my home town guys do it.
I can bare it, If diving becomes and epodemic in hockey like it has in soccer. I may reconsider my passion for the sport. I have no respect for that crap. |

Soccer fans get so offended when you tell them that soccer sucks
almost like deep down they know that it's true.... |

I'm from Europe, have been playing soccer all my life, and agree with the poster that said that soccer will always be most popular sport in world because of its accessibility. a few square metres and a ball (either real one or self-fabricated from waste materials) and you can start playing.
That being said, soccer is becoming less and less interesting and will lose interest (outside of 4-annual World Cup and 4 annual European Championships) mainly because of the financial inequality between various club teams. National leagues there are always 2-3 top favorites which win league 90% of time, while European Champions' League there will be max of 6 teams that can win it.
Lack of a salary cap and pan-European rules will mean that soccer will be less and less attractive.
The argument of diving is actually quite stupid; diving is really blown out of proportions (although becoming more 'popular' in recent years).
Diving in soccer is the same as staged fights in hockey; it's embarrasing and everything should be done to get rid of it.. both are an insult to the fans and should be banned from the game.
Both diving as well as staged fights are not very common though; it's just that there is a lot of attention for it in media when happens (staged fighting maybe not getting attention as much, but it is really the staged fighting which create a barrier for non-traditional countries to start watching more hockey).
Hockey is clearly the best sport to watch, at least in my opinion. Hockey could have a great future in other countries, mainly for non-traditional hockey countries in Europe, especially if some more young players from those countries (ie Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, UK etc.) make it to NHL.
Saying that soccer is more boring than basketball, football (rugby being the better variant) and especially baseball is really indicative that the writer does not really follow soccer as much; opinion was based on a small set of 3-4 games?? (further in tournament, stakes were higher and games got less attractive since more 'strategic'). |

The girls end of the hall I lived in during my one year attending college was all soccer players. All that running really does nice work on legs and ass, therefor I totally support women's soccer. However I never actually attended a soccer game in my life. |
