Mason has a track record that isn't very good though. One season doesn't wash away the 5 years prior to coming to Philly. Miller and Luongo in my opinion are easily better then Mason just by track records alone. Luongo has a pretty recent Stanley Cup Final appearance and a Gold Medal. Miller sky rocketed the Blues until hitting a road block against a top 2 team in the league in Chicago in the playoffs. - SuperSchennBros
i'm going by what i see right now. i like mason more than miller and luongo. it's my opinion. |

But that is what makes an opinion an opinion. It is a judgement you made not necessarily based on facts or knowledge. The basis of an opinion is that it is not a fact and can be wrong. - xShoot4WarAmpsx

Not picking on you but Mason is not as good as Rinne. Wasn't Rinne nominated for the Vezina not long ago? Smith I don't think is better then Mason, imply because he was selected to the Olympics and Phoenix isn't that good of a team to begin with. Smith keeps that team's head over water. - SuperSchennBros

Do you post on this thread a lot because I've never been anywhere where opinions and facts are so painfully interchanged on a regular basis?

What the hell do you know about goaltending? Get back to us when you win some sort of international competition, and then we will listen to your opinion and give it some weight. |

I've never seen anything done less manly with the Cup since the Penguins won it.

I agree with liking him more than Miller, but I would put Luongo above him if contracts aren't part of it. |

I think being added to an international team or nominated for an NHL award within recent years carries some weight. I don't think you can look at a player, watch what he's done for one season and simply say...He's one of the best!
Claude Giroux for example in my opinion is one of the top 5 young centers in the league. He wasn't added to team Canada but he's earned this right simply by the numbers. He's earned this by year after year consistency. |

Let's make no mistake here. I like Steve Mason. I sure as hell have a lot more confidence in Mason then Jeremy Roenick does. At the same time, I'm not going to overrate him. I don't believe he's a top 10 goaltender in the league right now. I'm willing to say top 15 (Which there is nothing wrong with) but not top 10.
Can my opinion change? Of course. The Numbers would have to be there the next upcoming seasons. A Nomination for an award never hurts. Being added to an international team could help with my opinion. How far he takes us into the playoffs.
Mason hasn't done any of this yet. This was his first full season with the Flyers and he was junk for 5 years prior to coming here. Harsh but true. |

The contracts and players aren't apples-to-apples comparisons, because of types of free agents they are and how close they are to UFA. - bradleyc4
And their age, and the FA class, and the length of the deal.
Which is why Braydon Coburn makes more than Ryan McDonagh. |
