Actually they aren't in that bad of shape. They have 2 solid young Centers to build around, a handful of wingers coming up, To be honest they already have a quality defense lead by Giordano. Not sure if they will become contenders soon, but I bet they can be Minnesota/Columbus good in 2 years.

Did you know they lost more 1 goal games than any other team? Not talented but hard working.

Great job with the blogs. I actually read yours, as opposed to most of the other bloggers that just bring up talking points that dont have any basis in reality. I didnt catch the 3 on 3 stuff, but you are absolutely right about ristolainen, pysyk, and girgensons, they looked so polished compared to everybody else at the scrimmage. Incidentally, I thought carrier looked real good, whats his immediate future look like?

You can be a sh!tty corsi team and win hockey games....just like you can get outshot every game and still have a winning record...but it's rare. The Leafs for example were an awful possesion team, but they did pretty good for most of the year. I guess the difference is great goal tending and a high percentage snipers.

Let's not forget injuries....this is why the Sabres should look at signing two defensemen, perhaps someone like Mar Fraser to play with Pysyk on the third pairing, or Tallinder to play with Myers or Risto when he comes up from Rochester when the team has injuries on defense.

Anybody think that Joe Finley would be a good swing man to have in Rochester to come up to Buffalo....I think he is available.....a big body who can at least skate.

Also, is there anybody that Nolan saw in Europe that he would like to bring over here? Other teams seem to be doing so, why not Buffalo?

They actually are pretty deep now at forward. You might not like them but Kulemin and Grabo make them a better team, plus the goaltending upgrade...I think they carry on where the left off the lockout year, a full year of healthy JT goes a long long way for them.

The only way I see them doing much better than last is if their rookies/prospects step it up, and they do have some good ones, so that is a definite possibility.

I just don't see the offseason additions being enough to buy them more than a handful of additional wins over last season. If you look at Kulemin and Grabo's numbers combined, they're only likely to equal what Moulson or Vanekl would have contributed anyway.....so now that they've lost them it's really just a lateral move.....which stills equals a lottery pick.

Halaak could be a difference maker though it's hard to say with him

The islanders are the team everybody in the metro looks foward to playing. I don't think their roster looks better to start this year than it has last year. Islanders make the playoffs once because of a shortened season and then follow up being a bottom team with or without Tavares and somehow expectations are high??? Washington has 1 bad season, which wasn't really that bad, and suddenly they are a cellar dweller?? But wait they added halak, guy was replaced by a non nhl'er on his Olympic team, f'n Garbo and kulimen
