I don't see it as playing out of position. I think he should be a Winger, not a center. And it even makes more sense when we look at the center depth on the team. - MJL
I disagree. He can be a stud 2c soon but not if we keep putting him everywhere but c. If much rather move couturier to wing for a season just to spark offense. Obviously he is the better c but his offense is virtually non existent at this point. Keep schenn at c and give couturier a chance on g line to get his offense game to NHL level |

I think it may be too late. Last season he played nearly a full year at center, and if this year we want him to play a full year at wing, it could screw up his development. Regardless on whether or not his style is suited for the wing, the fact is he's more than likely at this point have a better chance to reach his potential if we keep him at center, and I'd rather have someone who caps out as a decent 2c than someone who's struggling to adapt to the wing. - Litepow
He played a lot of Wing last year. I don't think moving him to Wing from the get go in training camp is going to hurt him. And I think he has just as much of a chance to reach his potential at Wing as he does at Center. And it's also what's best for the team also in my opinion. |

Actually schenn is already a 2c and has grown every year. Couts right now is an elite shutdown 3c who hasn't tapped any of his offense yet. I wouldn't mind putting couts up with Giroux to spark that offense we all know he has. Schenn earned 2c with his play last season and needs to grow as a center not a winger. - 28Girouxsalem28
Wait... You think we should move our top defensive center to Giroux's wing to spark his offense? The guy who had Selke votes? Schenn doesnt project to be a center in regards to the team. We have G, Couts , Vinny, Schenn, Laughton... in the next year or two, Laughton will be our #3 center, Couts our #2, and G obviously still our #1.
Schenn should be move to the wing, and kept at the wing. He didnt "earn" anything. He played well, and improved playing in a myriad of places throughout the line up. |

I have a huge problem with schenn playing wing an out of position at such a crucial time in his devolpement. It should be what's best for schenn and couturier not about where lecavier is comfortable. Schenn earned 2c last year with his play and should be allowed to grow in that spot. - 28Girouxsalem28
He didn't earn anything last year at 2C. When VLC went out and he moved back to center from wing, he went 15 games without scoring a goal.
He may or may not be better at center or wing, that is debatable. But he didn't earn or solidify anything.

This isnt a video game. Moving Couts to the wing for a season to "spark offense" is just about the worst possible idea. |

Schenn had 41 points playing in the top 6.
Couturier had 39 points playing against other teams top lines every night.

Couturier is easily the better all around player, and is by far a better center in terms of two way play over Schenn. Moving Couturier to Wing is a horrendous idea that I would seriously doubt the Flyers would even entertain, for very good reason.
If you look at how Couturier was used, and the situations he played in, it is false to say his offense is non existant. In fact his offensive numbers are pretty good for how he was used. I agree that Couturier has to be put in better situations, but moving him to Wing is not the right way to go. |

To spark couturiers offense yes. Why not put Laughton on the wing while he isn't in the NHL. He is younger and has more time to adapt in AHL before coming in? It's harder to trqch wing in NHL. Schenn has loads of potential still and moving him around every year isn't helping him at all. Viny can play 4th if its going to hurt couturier Laughton and schenns devolpement. |

The idea is to be a strong team up the middle for the future with strong two way players who can play well defensively, and check well and pressure the puck all over the ice. As well as provide offense. Schenn doesn't have those attributes to his game. He's more of a N/S player, who best attributes are going to the net, and playing a physical game along the walls. He's not a strong puck carrier or a distributor of the puck. Which I think makes him better suited to the Wing. |

Listened to WIP yesterday and they were taking ten year bets on different Philly sports teams and players. So here goes.
Would you take this bet? In ten years Claude Giroux will be the all time leading scorer for the Flyers. - mickel25
no. i wouldn't. |

Great read as always Bill. I take pride in knowing my Flyers history despite being 28 and never getting to see the Broad Street Bullies outside of videos, granted the Red Army game is one of my all time favorites. But I was unfamiliar with Flett until today, thanks for that info.
It's kind of funny that my mom can watch a game today and have no idea who anyone is despite watching almost every game. But I mention Flett to her and her first response is "Cowboy?" - five4fighting10

No there isn't. So I kind of laugh when those who say he is "much better" as a center.
My point is that I think when he comes in to his own, in order to reach his highest potential, the type of game he plays is better suited to wing. - MBFlyerfan
I'm not saying Schenn can't succeed on the wing, but Berube has said he prefers Schenn at Center, hasn't he? There must a reason why he seems to think that, aside from it just being the position with which he has the most experience |
