Wow, you guys won a cup, you have a new blog up and post only 20 posts in 2 days? LA is such a fickle town. Give us our cup back! - Q...argh
We have our own official blog and our official unofficial forums. Go over there and you'll see hundreds, if not thousands of posts on every blog/thread. Just because a lot of people don't hang around Eklund's poopty blog doesn't mean there aren't a lot of fans out there.
No offense to your blog Jason. You do a good job, hence me hanging around here. |

No offense.........but JJ will get 300 comments from less than 10 guys..........not a bad thing ........I read comments on his blogs and a lot of time less than half will be hockey related. Its definitely more of a social blog. Different dynamics here and less people here in so cal even know about in this site. We all do feel tingly though knowing the cup is home in LA |

Doughty really stepped up on the defensive side this year and finally became an all around defensman. Some of the plays he made in his own zone were spectacular.
I think next season is his Norris trophy year. |

There are like 10 losers who talk with each other on JJ's blogs all day...mostly about non-hockey related topics.
No one is impressed with the nerds with no girlfriends talking about how to fill the 3RW hole.

Its kind of a ghost town over there lately. The refs have been brutal and JJ gets very defensive when anyone questions him or disagrees with him.
Sucks, cause it used to be a fun place to shoot the poop and kill some time. But like i said, now its like unless you agree with everything everyone says or "politely" argue with people, you get posts deleted or you get banned.
Pretty lame. |

That is pretty much the whole site anymore. You cannot go into a Habs blog without getting a warning. Pretty ridiculous. |

When I questioned his statement that nobody in LA was better than Keith or Leddy and that our defense wouldn't be able to handle Chicago he put it in a blog essentially saying I was dumb. I really wanted to go back after the series but I knew he and the mods would get upset and ban me. Very cowardly way to act.

lol. not much to debate i guess. by all accounts doughty had a pretty solid year, even if he came in 6th in voting for top scoring defenseman trophy.
when team execs across the league universally praise doughty as one of THE top defensemen (and players in general), and he's the best player on a stacked team canada in the olympics, that's pretty heady praise in itself.
doughty may take longer to get back to the norris finalist ballot if he's not putting up 60 points given his all around game, but i would think team success would help his cause much like kopitar with the selke. |

Yes, but does he ever female dog, whine, and cry a lot. I hate that about his game. Biggest cry-baby in professional hockey. - bloatedmosquito

None taken, Sir. I am incredibly pleased with the activity that normally crops up in the comment sections here. Great folks. On top of that I don't think I've ever really had anything break down into a ridiculous troll fest internet fight.
If you guys are bored you can go for it though, it is summer after all. I wouldn't blame you. |

No one will read this since the new blog is already up, but since I've already gone to the trouble of writing it ...
Doughty is not a prodigious point-scorer for a top defenseman, but clearly he's doing a lot to drive his team's offense. Doughty is out on the ice for 19-20 minutes a night at even strength (and around 25-26 overall) and is consistently matched up against the opposition's best. For an elite possession team, he gets relatively neutral zone deployment. And yet Los Angeles is absolutely steamrolling oppoents when Doughty is on the ice (even compared to their normally high standards in this department), taking over 58% of the shot attempts and scoring over 58% of the goals. (You can't even really call it luck either, since Doughty's 100.8 PDO is pretty tame compared to most of the company he's in.)
To use a soccer analogy (Tyler Dellow of mc79hockey gets credit for this), Doughty is like an elite box-to-box center midfielder. That midfielder might not score a ton of goals. He might not even pick up too many of what soccer would deem "assists" either. But nobody questions his offensive value. He consistently wins the battles for the ball in the midfield and can calmly move the ball up the field, getting it to the strikers and wingers. That creates more scoring opportunities for the team's primary scorers, which leads to more goals.
Likewise, Doughty is not necessarily going to score a ton of goals or even pick up a ton of assists relative to defenseman who play more of a "fourth forward" role or have the good fortune of playing on a high scoring team. But there's no question that he's a key component of driving his team's offense. He wins puck battles in the defensive and neutral zones. He can calmly move the puck up ice so his team can gain the offensive zone with possession. He might not be putting up the point totals of a Keith or a Karlsson because he's not creating as many opportunities for HIMSELF to score, but he is creating more opportunities for his teammates to score -- and they do, to the point that L.A. scores almost 3 goals for every 2 they give up with Doughty on the ice, despite matching him against their opponent's best players.
The point of the game is not to pad your own stats. It's to help you team outscore the opposition and win games. If a guy is consistently good at doing that, we shouldn't really care who in the end gets credit for the offense that was generated (i.e., who is accumulating the actual goals and assists). Creating more opportunities for your teammates to pick up points is just as good as picking those points up yourself. |
