EDM will never trade away anyone, they have inflated values for their entire roster. They keep putting garbage on the ice, but the fans are loyal and will pay a premium for crap. - sammy87

Is it a playoff team? No, not yet, especially not in the West. But Mac T has taken good steps in turning the roster over and bringing in actual NHL talent for support of the young guys. All that remains is a decent 2C/3C stop gap Centre. We drafted Leon Draisaitl which I hope we don't rush this next yea. Still time for a trade for that stop gap. |

Is Sutter really that bad as a 3rd line center? What's he looking to get on his new deal? - habfanforever
No he's not terrible. I think Pens fans got spoiled with Staal and also have a vision of the 3rd line center being a bit more physical. Also Spaling and Goc are both centers and are cheaper options and don't think you lose much in terms of production |

Sorry man but your crazy, Sutter is one of the most dynamic and underrated centers in the entire league; he is phenomenal. - nbartley9
Ask yourself this
Would you trade a 26 point 3rd line centre for a 57 point winger?
Not trying to undervalue Sutter, we could sure use him, but not at the expense of a top 6 player who agitates and plays with heart and grit |

Sutter is perfect for that need. I'm sure a deal can get done. One fan base probably just won't like how it went down. |

HA fantastic, was there a pie graph indicating his work down low in the offensive zone; because in my opinion that is his best attribute. The guy may not light people up and fight but he is a fearless player, he will go into the boards with reckless abandon and let any dman in the league just crush him then still come out with the puck. |

Well someone posted his goal heat chart and seemed like he did most of his work in tight. |

Posted this on the last board, but of course, I timed it right when Ryan put a new blog out....
FYI:
TIOPS says Oilers and Avs have keen interest in Sutter (oilers especially) - YouMeAndDupuis9
Man the Pens should do everything possible to try and pry O'Reilly away from the Avs. For whatever reason it seems the Avs/O'Reilly are not ever going to be on the same page.
I'm no genius with arbitration but I would think things have to fall in order pretty quickly,. before they have their meeting and a ruling is set. We would need to negotiate a long term deal and figure out the other pieces going to the Avs.

I don't see the infatuation with O'Reilly. That kid talked about earlier has more appeal to me. |

Really a 23 year old kid who had 28 goals and 64 pts last year doesn't interest you? Also he's great defensively and can play wing or center. |

That would be quite amazing but don't think a Sutter package gets it done. ROR has a tough contract situation, and we would need to clear significant space to take on such a big cap hit ($6.75M). We'd be looking at giving up Sutter and Martin most likely. It seems like a reach.
That said, I certainly see the appeal. Sid, Geno, Kunitz, Hornqvist, and ROR in the top 6 though would be deadly. (assuming he could play wing) |
|

|
Pens have apparently offered Sutter three different contract proposals, one of them being at least 4 years at $3.5M. (per TIOPS)
That's too expensive for my taste. |

I see the appeal from last year, but the lack of penalties somehow bothers me. No explanation for that. I also don't like the drama. Whether it's his camp or the Avs I just don't like that stuff. His contract too, it'll be based on potential and one year of production. |

How nice would it be to add Kapanen and Hayes to the forward depth for the Pens system? Especially if they don't have to give anything up for Hayes. It would add two bonafide 1st round forwards (wings actually) to the forward mix moving forward. That would be huge.
I really haven't seen anything about projections or comparisons on Hayes. Are their any comparables out there playerwise? |
