Really a 23 year old kid who had 28 goals and 64 pts last year doesn't interest you? Also he's great defensively and can play wing or center. - dbell646
Yeah... I have some reservations about him for how he handled himself off the ice with his contract stuff, his dad running his mouth, etc etc., but as a player, what's not to like. |

Something about a guy who racks up two penalty minutes for a full season, while having a bigger body. That bugs me and I've given it some thought. It feels to me that O'Reilly doesn't go 100%. In every game everyone gets caught out of position, 99% of us will do something to get the advantage back and get nailed for hooking or interference. And what about fights? Not saying he needs to but not putting up a few roughing penalties when skirmishes start on your shift? |

Pens have apparently offered Sutter three different contract proposals, one of them being at least 4 years at $3.5M. (per TIOPS)
That's too expensive for my taste. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Unlike Bartley, I like Sutter... But for 4 x $3.5 million, he can go sit on a hammer. |

That's all contract stuff. I have never heard anything about him in the lockerroom or on the ice. |

Considering you have him and Spaling to sin with 6.4M, I wonder if a pick + prospect trade is feasible for Sutter so there is some cap flexibility (for instance around trade deadline). I do believe you can sign both for around 5 though. |

To me, it just speaks volumes on his positioning and defensive side of play.
On the other side, penalties can severely cost your team, so i don't necessarily see them as a good thing. You can play hard and clean, and I believe ROR did just that.

I was lost on the logic that him not having many penalty minutes was bad. I heard this past season that he should've been consideration for the Selke |

Is it a playoff team? No, not yet, especially not in the West. But Mac T has taken good steps in turning the roster over and bringing in actual NHL talent for support of the young guys. All that remains is a decent 2C/3C stop gap Centre. We drafted Leon Draisaitl which I hope we don't rush this next yea. Still time for a trade for that stop gap. - ystoil
Those players out are nothing to write home about. If EDM wants to really improve they need to move a bigger name. Those players in out side of Perron are nothing really either and most are over paid. Who is their goalie? EDM probably could have had a 1st for Hemsky if they traded him a yr prior. The only way that team improves is by moving a top young talent and no Gagner is not one. |

It's always worth a shot to sign someone else's prospects if they go UFA, but the chance he is going to sign with us seems to be stretched. He would get a lot of playing time in Florida and he has history in Boston. He would be an excellent addition to our system and could be up as soon as next season, helping offset any losses of our one year deal players. |

It's very easy to say Edmonton should move a bigger name for other pieces but its another thing to find a suitor and the right value. By all means, show me feasible trades where we can improve.
We have picked top 3 for 4 of the last 5 drafts. Pittsburgh picked top 5 for 5 drafts in a row. We just need time to acquire depth (which is our biggest issue) in free agency and other trades. We likely won't get the value we need from moving those top guys, so instead we keep them and insulate them (hence the "in" guys in my last post).

That's a good point, I'd throw a little extra money at him just because of how badly we need young impact forwards. I think lots of teams will be interested so it will most likely come down to where Hayes wants to be. We can't promise him top 6 time right off the bat but PIT is probably a great mixture of opportunity to play combined with a cup contender.
He's more of a 'need' than a guy I would specifically target. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Hayes benefited from being, in my opinion, on the best line in college hockey with Johnny Gaudreau and Bill Arnold. The previous 3 years he was with different players and didn't nearly perform up to his senior level stats. If I am the Hawks I let him walk. If I am another team I wouldn't offer everything and then some for one good year, although his size alone does warrant some attention surely. |

Maybe I don't have the mental capacity to understand how the lack of penalty minutes has any connection to ones compete level given the fact it's been pretty evident the kid plays a terrific 200 ft game. |

Eberle would bring in a haul. Roster Dman, Prospect and a 1st or 2nd. Hemsky could have been a 1st. |

My mental capacity is damn low, so I doubt it's that. It bugs me how a guy has two pm on the season. Was he on the ice for scrums? He had to have been. What was he doing? |

I totally agree, and I will even go a step further and say whoever wins the Lady Byng every year should have the crap beaten out of them at team awards night by his team mates, mostly because I hate that award; but also it would make hockey so much more enjoyable to watch. |

Through a ten game beer league season there's always scrums. You have guys that go all in and guys who fear an injury. The latter seem to always start something and leave the rest of us to clean it up. It's annoying, even more so when you're spitting blood.
My comparison is the NHL guys play for a living and get paid absurdly for a game many of us would do for free. If you're on the ice for a scrum against the Rangers and grab St. Louis immediately, I don't want you on my team. |
