anyone else think the flyers should have taken a 1mil flyer on booth the guy has great potential when healthy and may have been a great fit next to ass grabber and jake - flyer186

I would have considered him for a bottom-six role... he's likely better than Bellemare and a monumental upgrade over Rinaldo... but I'm happy just leaving the door wide open for guys like Raffl/Akeson/Laughton to grab hold of a top-9 spot.
I don't think Booth was ever a real top-6 player... miscast in FLA, and that carried over to his time in VAN. He's not bad as a third-liner at all. |

The Flyers should've spent 1.1 million on a booth babe instead of the booth guy, imo. |

well Mason Raymond's last year with the canucks he had 22 points and then left went to Toronto and got 45... Booth could be in the same vote if he stays healthy and is given the same offensive situation as raymond was he may excel..all i am saying with very little cao room he may have been worth the chance for the price...oh wait we have no cap room |

Maybe let Bellemare actually play before coming to that conclusion. Booth is a scoring line player who no longer puts up much offense. Not known as a solid two way player, and not a fit for a 3rd line in my view.

The Flyers have the cap space to sign Booth if they wanted to for what he signed for.

Except that he excelled as a two-way 3rd-line winger this year.

I love hockey discussions in July... arguing about 3rd line wingers, and whether or not someone is qualified to be an Asst GM. |

The best is when we argue about someone like MacDonald being a #2/#3 vs #3/#4 or "Simmonds is the 2nd best forward on the team" vs "Simmonds is the 3rd best forward on the team"
Spoiler alert: It's actually not the best |

Adding the qualifier of likely doesn't make the statement any less foolish. Bellemare has not played a game yet for the Flyers. Is this the same as Striet was likely a bad signing by the Flyers in the 12/13 off season?
Booth excelled so much that Vancouver was unwilling to keep him around for one more season. And I don't know many two way 3rd line Wingers that excelled, that saw zero playing time on the PK.

It's no different then everyone arguing whether or not Lecavalier is good enough to play in our top nine, if Hartnell's physical play is in decline or whether or not Ott would be a good fit here at the right price. All debatable but everyone gets up in arms if you don't stand on the same side of the line. |

Can somebody explain to me why Umberger is a question mark for staying healthy, when he's missed all of 31 games in 8 seasons since becoming an NHL regular in the 05/06 NHL season? - MJL
Cause he's a Flyer now |

I'm not optimistic they can move Lecavalier so they need to find a way to work him into the line up without hindering quicker forwards:
Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Umberger-Vinny-Akeson
Raffl-Laughton-Bellameere
Rinaldo - Baxter27
Potential for a very solid 4th line, but the third line is an issue. I just don't trust Akeson at this point.

Didn't you know? 3rd line wingers are the building blocks of your team. It goes:
1st Line Center
Top Pairing D-man
Number 1 netminder
3rd line winger
Asst GM
Those other goobers that we let on the team for some reason
The rest of Management |

I would like to hear the argument for Vinny on the 3rd line. Quite frankly I don't see that as a good fit. |
