Would you think that Schenn lived up to the hype if thats all he becomes?
Vinny has been the 2nd line center on Tampa for years. Playing behind Richards or Stamkos. 70 pt guy

I don't care if none of our players exceed or fail to live up to their "hype" if they all become productive players that lead the Flyers to a Cup. I'd rather have a Cup team than a hype team.

I certainly hope so. Cause if he doesnt... who will??? We wont have that 1-2 punch at center that most cup teams have.
- GOA88

Long term, it's more likely Couturier will end up as the 1-2 punch with Giroux, IMO. Couturier just needs more opportunity in an offensive role. They have to start giving him more opportunity.

Not so sure about that. I see the future lineup of the Flyers down the middle as consisting of Giroux, Couturier, Laughton. I'd personally rather see Schenn moved to Wing. Giroux is a bona fide top player at first line center. Then Couturier, who I think willl be a point producer at some point, with a tremendous defensive game. And then a solid all around 2 way center, hopefully, in Laughton at the 3rd line center spot. Strength up the middle.

I see your point, but I think you're missing mine. Schenn is supposed to be an impact player in this league and we need him to be or this team is going nowhere but early playoff exits.

Depends on perspective. I didn't expect him to be the Lecavalier of old. All he has to do is play as well as he can, and provide 2nd line offense. If he can score 25 goals and 25-30 assists, what's wrong with that? Not expecting him to be a top line player anymore.
- MJL

I think the only problem that most people have is his play without the puck. If he can make an honest improvement in his all-around game, that's fine. If he's a liability both defensively and without the puck, then I will be expecting 30 goals or better to offset what I see as his shortcomings away from the puck.

So if he becomes a constant 50 point guy and Couturier becomes an "impact player" and score 60-70 points, is that bad?

I'd rather him be a key component of a winning team than have a label like "impact" or "hype" attached to him. If he serves a role well and it is conducive to a winner, then he's fine.

55 points would put you in the top 30 scoring centers in the league. 50 points would make you the 40th highest scoring center in the league.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/pl...&status=&viewName=summary

50-55 points is absolutely good enough for a 2nd line center.

What hype? He was touted as a prototypical 2nd-line C at draft-time.

I would disagree there. At least in term of what my view is of an impact player. Schenn was never labeled that, in my opinion. I think that's where the disconect is. I never saw him as more then a 2nd line scoring player.

I suppose not... just seems like a stretch at this point. Heres to hoping.

I don't think anyone's missing your point. It's just isn't a valid one when the Flyers already have two young centers who are better than Schenn.

If they both fall into the 50-60 pt range, I'd consider them both to have met their base expectations. Anything on top of that is gravy.

(To put things in perspective, we could be talking about Glennie or Paajarvi... guys that would be lucky to score 20-30 pts in the league despite being high 1st-rounders. 20G, 40P is great.)

I'm not under any illusions that Lecavalier is going to suddenly become a solid checking center. That's part of the problem. He is not the type of player that fits the ideals of how the Coach wants to play. He's a player that is going to rely on offensive pressure, to be effective. If he's healthy, he'll skate better, and that will be a help.

I think we need to give him more time. He's 22. I think a lot of the hype around him was born from the WJC, where he dominated. He's a solid player now, could still be an impact guy.

EDIT: Well, near enough to Philly where I get CSN-Philly.

If the Flyers choose to sign him, perhaps at the end of this season; certainly in 2015-16. It's still by no means a slam-dunk that the Flyers sign him (although the ISS scout I spoke with believes Parks could be an NHL bottom-six forward).

The Flyers tend to sign drafted collegiate players ahead of their senior year. Parks has benefited from an extra USHL season plus four years of collegiate hockey, so it may be different with him.

Philly will have until Aug 15, 2015 to figure it all out. Parks was drafted in 2010, so that is just about the maximum evaluation period a team can have to make a final decision. When drafting a long-term project player, it is good to have such an extended time to track his development. Sophomore season leg injury aside, Parks has come along on a slow-but-steady basis since 2010.

guess being he was at the prospect camp is a sign he is still on their radar?

Unless you want to stream like 3-4 games at once, it shouldn't be a problem. It only takes like ~3Mbps to get max vid quality w/o buffering.

Out of curiosity, who was Chicago's 2nd line center in 12-13? I honestly can't recall who that was. Was it Shaw?
