Wow, those numbers are right in line with what Zherdev put up on a terrible 07/08 Columbus team. What an acquisition!!! - jmatchett383
You can argue the term of the contract isn't great, trying to make a case that Cammalleri won't improve the Devils and then comparing him to Zherdev is kind of silly. |

I hate to say it, but I think the Devils are going to be pretty good. They don't have to worry about playing a sub-par Brodeur anymore, Jagr showed no signs of slowing down. His season with the Devils last year was superior to his season with the Flyers. They added M-Cam to boost the offense. NJD finished 5 points out of a playoff spot last year, they went 0-12 in shootouts. I highly doubt that trend continues. - PLindbergh31
Possibly, but it's just as likely that, at age 42, Jagr has a recurrence of groin problems or other issues and regresses. M-Cam is a nice addition but they still lack offense, as Elias is also another year older. I'm also not sold on their goaltending and D as well.

Are you sold on Mason? - Tomahawk
Sold enough for him to a solid goalie, yes. Sold as a guy who's going to resurrect a team and step in for a HOFer, no. |

Their defense is a big concern, but they should be a better team than last year's model, and I'm more sold on Schneider than running Broduer out for 30 games again |

my mistake, I thought you were throwing Zherdev out there in regards to Schneider
that said, you sure do refer to Zherdev a lot - BulliesPhan87
Well, he's the perfect example of a guy who, while he can put up points, is not necessarily a good player to acquire to improve your team. |

Difference is, Cammalleri has also put up good numbers in the playoffs and for playoff teams. I'm not saying he's great, but he's still a pretty good player. - Jsaquella
We're just gonna disagree. I see him as a 2009-era Scott Gomez, or another Jokinen/Hemsky, guys who put up points but who don't necessarily help you win despite their numbers. |

I guess I'm not sure how you could see Bernier and Schneider's track records as being any more suspect than Mason's.

He's actually kind of clutch. 1/3 of his 26G last season were GW'ers. He had 13G in 19games for the Habs in the PO's in '10... 3 were GW'ers. |

Let me put it this way: Mason has played very well for us for a little over a season. I expect him to continue to play well given his recent success. Would I expect him to turn either Toronto into playoff teams/contenders simply by replacing what they had? No. |

He sure was a huge difference maker in the ECF in 10. Good thing they had a guy like him to produce when the stakes got high. |

Jeff Carter and Marian Gaborik had been similarly characterized prior to the Kings snagging them, look how that worked out
(yes I shamelessly stole this point from Ryan Wilson) |

Using that criteria, I guess Eric Lindros couldn't produce in the clutch because he scored 1 goal in the 1997 SCF |

So you're saying that Luongo should have been awful from the get-go in Vancouver since he came there from Florida? - jmatchett383
i wasn't saying anything other than he won't be in a hostile environment when finally having a chance to prove himself as a starter. that should only help him, i think.
he's a very good, young goalie. i don't have any clue whether he'll sink or swim now. |

Yet he tore it up in the ECF, basically winning that series with the team on his back. But sure, he was never clutch when it mattered at all. |

What if Mason played 20-fewer games this season, and those starts went to Emery (who's .903 is close to Marty's .905)? Do we still make the PO's? Doubt it. |

Probably not. But Mason did, proving he was able to shoulder the workload as a full season as the #1. Let's see if Bernier and/or Schneider can put up those same numbers over 60+ games. |

And Cammalleri was the Habs best offensive player before the 2010 ECF, leading them in scoring.
All I'm saying is, Cammalleri has produced in important spots before. He's a PPG player in the playoffs and has been a key member of playoff teams in the past. He was stuck on a bad team in Calgary the past few seasons, but he's put up points when it mattered. |
