So we agree, at the 20 game mark if he has 20 points we retire his jersey - cool.

Technically, 20 games isn't a full quarter of a season, but I'll go along with it... though I reserve the right to stone him to death if he fails to bury that 20th point, as this constitutes making a false idol of oneself.

People really need to slow down on the Lazar hype machine. He looked like a scrub compared to Stone at the development camp. Again, I think he was probably burnt out from all the hockey he has played but in no way did he stand out (don't care about the hardest working award). Ceci, Stone, Puempel, Claessen, Prince, and surprisingly, Paul all looked much more confident and NHL ready IMO.

It is extremely rare that a junior player can make the jump in his first year as a pro. I think Ottawa keeps him around for a couple games then sends him back down. Thankfully the organization does not rush their prospects so hopefully he gets the proper time to develop.

2nd Line-Center: Legwand v.s Zibanejad

David Legwand finished 68th among centers TOI/G. Zibanejad finished 119th (even less than Zack Smith). Zibanejad 16G 33 pts in 69 games isn't as impressive as Legwand's 14G 51pts in 82 but it's very likely that Legwand will not improve on those numbers and Zibanejad is very likely too.

My prediction: Legwand starts the year as 2LC with Zibanejad taking it at some point. What do you think?

Other battles:
2nd line Right-Winger: Mark Stone v.s. Alex Chaisson

6th Dmen: Mark Boroweici v.s Patrick Weicioch vs. Cody Ceci v.s Eric Gryba

I see us basically running 2a, 2b. I think Zibby and Legwand will have pretty much the same ice time, Turris some more, ZSmith some less

I agree with this. I'm not sold on Lazar as an NHLer just yet. Admittedly, the only hockey I've seen him play was the World Jr and some Memorial Cup action, which he looked solid. You can't rush the kid into the NHL. Especially with the team we have. There isn't much isolation for a young player on this squad. I guess we will see how he does at training camp, but my bet would be that he gets sent back to Junior.

He's a great little player, but he's not a generational talent. He is an A prospect who would probably not make much of a difference in his first NHL season for us. Few rookies ever do.

It would be better to send him to junior, let him star there and further work on his scoring prowess, and sort out what we have in some other guys before bringing him up. Two-way guys like Lazar often run the risk of turning into bottom 6 players if you don't nurture their scoring touch. Being one of the older stars in the WHL should give him plenty of opportunity to do that.

Hearing him on the radio; they guy's so happy here in Ottawa. He's a solid 2nd pairing D-man that will play quality mins on the PK and even strength. Also a good leader that cares about winning

Get him signed: 5 years @ $ 3.5M

This

Opening Night Line Combos
*Based on everything that I've heard

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan (line 1a)
Michalek - Legwand - Stone (line 1b)
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Chaisson
Greening - Smith - Neil

Cowen - Karlsson
Methot - Ceci
Phillips - Gryba

The problem with line '1a' and line '1b' is that line 'A' has an all-day long 2nd liner on it and your line '1B' has 2 third liners on it. more accurate fitting would be 'line 1' 'line 3a', 'line 3 b', '4th'

I wouldn't go dismissing Lazar as somehow being in need of improving his scoring touch. He had 41 goals last year which led his team (was on a pace for 51, which would have been 2nd best in the WHL), had 7pts/7GP for Canada at the WJC, and had 22pts/21GP in the WHL playoffs, and scored critical goals at the Memorial Cup that led to them upsetting Guelph in the finals. There's no question that training camp will be very competitive, and it's quite possible that Lazar won't make the cut - but I think it would be a mistake to suggest that he has much of anything left to achieve or learn about at the WHL level.
