what proud loyal fans you guys are. Bail on your team when they play bad like the little bandwagoners you are. I feel bad for the true pens fans who stuck with the team good and bad who get called bandwagoners. The most bandwagon team in the league the LA Kings.
- JVR_42_PK81

Fixed. Seriously though, did Kings fans even exist before they won their first cup in 2012. I feel like the entire fan base is made up of Lakers fans that can't stand to support a losing team and need something new to justify their arrogance.

I said Phaneuf is overpaid... They responded with Edler is overpaid.

I said Leafs have two good back up goalies.. They respond Luongo blah blah blah.

Phaneuf gets 7 million easy this summer on the open market.

Yes he does. The difference is he has a god awful defense and really cant rely on it.
- SuperHenderson13

Oh please. Carlyle's defense is a joke. It's shocking he didn't get fired.

Likely more (I'm looking at you Washington Capitals and the Brooks Orpik deal).

On a serious note I don't understand why the Paneuf deal is the most scrutinized deal in the NHL aside from maybe Vinny Lecavalier. He's a good player and 7 mil is just the price that top pairing and very good second pairing defensemen are going for these days. And that's what Phaneuf is. An above average top pairing d man/very good second pairing d man.

They are a huge bandwagoned team too. In every bandwagoned fanbase there are the true ones who stuck with the team through the bad. They are the only ones who can gloat when they win. Blackhawks fan bad has a lot of bandwagoners too. If they knew what the Blackhawks accomplished before 2010. they wouldn't be too proud.

Because it's the Leafs. I still remember McCabe getting 5.75 per and people claiming for years it was the worst ever. Meanwhile, the Coyotees the same week gave Jovo 6.5 million per and no one said a word.

Just look at Dion's numbers the past 9 years. they speak for themselves. He has a lot of top 10-15 Norris finishes, and a career avg over 40 points.
Leafs players are way too criticized compared to most other markets.

I live in Hawks country, and man is that the truth. I go to school with a chick from Cali who's a self proclaimed Hawks fan instead of a Kings fan. Her reasoning you may ask? She said she didn't want to be a bandwagon kings fan, so she decided to become a Blackhawks fan in 2012. Me and my buddy who's a real Hawks fan couldn't help but bust out laughing at the irony.

I hate bandwagon hawks fans. They laugh at me for being a Leafs fan then I ask before 2010 do you know how bad your team was? then you get into the cup talk and I say the leafs have won 13 cups. And then they say ya that's when it was easy to win cups. Then I say Chicago only won 3 cups when it was "easy" to win cups. Shuts them right up.

Ah the early 2000s Hawks. The era when Steve Sullivan was their best players. Can't wait for them o hit bottom again due to cap issues so they can feel Pittsburgh's pain.

A forward roster of

Setoguchi's never tapped potential-Towes-Hossa's decrepit corpse
Danny Heatly's skates-Teravanen-Kane
60 year old Craig Adams-Shaw-Aaron Asham
AHLer-AHLer-CHLer

will do those bandwagoners some good. Rot in the 8th circle of cap hell, Chicago!

Matt Murray will b our goalie in the future. Jarry reminds me too much of fleury. Good for one sh!t goal a game. Matt Murray the next mike smith book it

Really? Because every report I've read says that Jarry's mental fortitude is his strongest trait. Hockey's Future even calls him the antithesis to Fleury: technically sound and relies on skill and placement rather than athleticism to make saves.

Is there anyone else out there who thinks that the pens winning the lottery for the year Crosby was available, was set up by the league? Just how the team that was facing bankruptcy, after the lock out season, just so happens to get the best player of a generation, in a draft where the selection process wasn't televised....seems all to convenient to me

Interesting, Thomas Greiss ranked second on the EVSV% while Fleury is 37th. When Rutherford signed Greiss my first impression was he wants to trade Fleury. I for one will not be surprised if their is genuine competition for the starting job and if Greiss can win the position, so be it. I like Fleury but if Greiss is better then he should be playing, that's sports.

Definitely going to be a more exciting season than the last couple.

Do you think that is why the league had the lock out in the first place, to ensure the Pens had the best shot to get him. The other 29 teams would have to go along with this reasoning.

Greiss was not impressive in Phoenix (I refuse to say Arizona) when he got the staring job due to injuries. Fleury's too good of a regular season net minder to be displaced by Greiss. Fleury is better than Greiss, but there is still a very real possibility that if Greiss succeeds in a limited number of starts this season, Fleury could be on the move, especially since resigning him seems like a long shot. Think about it. No one in Pitt is gonna wanna sign him back to 5 mil per, let alone give him a raise which he most likely will want. Only way Flower stays is if he accepts a pay cut, and the only way he'll accept a pay cut is if he plays poorly enough this season that he understands that the money just won't be there in the open market, and if that's the case, why would the Pens want him anyways?

Unless Fleury has an inexplicable hard loyalty to the city of Pittsburgh and a fan base that's been crucifying him since 2011, then there is just no way he comes back. The money just won't make sense for one side or the other.

Yup... hey, if it makes you feel better at night, fondly remembering the last... championship yins guys had, go ahead and call people who ACTUALLY care about their pride as fans bandwagoners. Pittsburghers are far to proud to support a team that the owners dont support. its not about wins and losses, its about reciprocity. if the early 2000's pens owners had put money into the team and they lost then the arena would have been filled. they didn't and the fans had enough self-esteem to not show up. you leafs fans... pathetic. show the owners some empty seats next year and see how quickly the team turns around. leafs fans dont have the F'in balls

Is there anyone else out there who thinks that the league should automatically award the Leafs 10-20 points before the season in order to make them more competitive in the standings?

with how dead the ACC is most games, you'd think they had a couple thousand empty seats.

An NHL lottery conspiracy has even less legs than an NBA lottery conspiracy, and an NBA lottery conspiracy has pretty damn few legs.

If the lid ever gets blown on the NBA collaborating with the Cavaliers, then we can talk about how the NHL maybe colluded with Pittsburgh to keep the franchise from moving. Until then, this is a pretty worthless conversation.

I'll take MAF over those 2 because I believe that he is a better goalie than either of them, cups aside.

when you have a goalie on a defensively challenged team, i dont read too much into the stats. i know some of your stats boys hate people like that, but its the way i look at it.

- SuperHenderson13

I think you are one of the very few who would take Fleury and his bloated salary over Bernier. The .923Sv% bernie got would have been a career high for MAF. I think MAF is a decent goalie, but like the blogger said average.

are you one of those people who just like to poke fun at the situation or do you actually believe that there was an NHL conspiracy to get the penguins the #1 overall pick?
