Yup. Bernier's next contract, provided he plays well, will be what he and Reiner are making now.
If you pay 1 million though, your chances of having a backup as good as Reimer is not very good. - RogerRoeper
I wouldn't mind Bryzgalov as our back up, on a one year, $1 million contract, then trade Reimer for whatever we can get, and use the cap space to fill a more important need than back up goalie.

This is a terrible example because under Hitchcock's defensive system, a guy like Brian Elloitt can have the best stats in the league. Miller just didn't play well. He's about the only goalie that hasn't benefitted from playing under Hitchcock.
Facing more shots does not help your numbers. That's ridiculous. If you're not playing well, you'll be killed in a system like Toronto. In fact, under Ron Wilson with the Leafs again being outshot, all Leaf goalies had sub .900 save%. It wasn't until Reimer arrived the numbers were good. - RogerRoeper
You can post all the examples you want. Like I said it can go either way.
Jonathon Bernier is the same goalie he was in LA, he's just facing more shots in Toronto. |

But his save % was the same in L.A. The season before coming to Toronto, he posted a .922 save % in LA. It was .923 in Toronto. His #'s did not go up in Toronto despite facing a lot more shots.
Look throughout Hitchcock's coaching history. His goalies are helped tremendously by playing for him. He made Steve Mason look like a star goalie. |

Historically yes, in the case of Miller no. That's an example of a decreased workload negatively affecting a goalies numbers. He didn't all the sudden become a below average goalie after 60 games of borderline great play on the 30 the place team |

So, any follow up on that Winnik rumor posted earlier in the thread, because I can't find anything about it anywhere else. |

Is it though? Because there's literally no other examples in Hitchcock's coaching career. It's playing againat your theory it's easier to post good numbers while facing so many shots.
You play in a strong defensive system, with less shots, and ones not of high quality, it helps more than being bombarded nightly.
The Leafs themselves had horrific goaltending when being outshot. The strong numbers from Reimer/Bernier are after years of stastically terrible goaltending. |

when in god's name has Jonathan Bernier ever carried to a team?
James Reimer with a 2.88 GAA in the playoffs? sorry, that isnt going to impress anyone.
Toronto's goalies have had the luck of playing under a defensive minded coach for the past couple of seasons... MAF hasnt. Shockingly enough, MAF's best seasons in the playoffs came in the 2 years he played under a defensive minded coaching style.

My original point was that Sv% can also be affected by what team you are on, which you obviously agree with since you keep pointing out Hitchcock's system helping goaltenders.

And I'm fine with that..... The same goalie part. You are aware how highly rated a goalie he was while in la right. |

No you don't understand. He's on Toronto now so the highly touted young goalie who could be elite one day reputation he had on LA is now gone because he plays for Toronto. |

He started 7-1 his first 8 games. Then the team fell apart.
As for the playoffs. Against the Hawks he had better numbers than Quick |

I don't. I hate Maple Leaf fans.
I wish we had some playoff numbers to compare between Fleury and Bernier but... |

MAF is not a great value at $5mil. The Leafs G is probably a better value with what they both bring to the table. If both had the same salary, I take MAF. MAF has only 1 yr left, I think if Griess proves he has #1 potential, he gets a slight raise and is the starter. If MAF is willing to take a 50% cut next yr, I think we see him back. I am not sure how many teams will pay MAF $4+ next yr. |

Yup. Just the worst.
Pittsburgh fans of course know nothing about being the fans who are supporting a poor team through difficult times with bad on-ice product. |

I guess we'll find out in a couple of seasons right. Come back and sling this poop when Bernier has started 92 playoff games and has been the starter for back to back cup runs.
Even now with Fleury being a head case in the playoffs he has had more success then either Leaf goalie. |

Great he has played 90 playoff games. Most of those games he played like poop. Sometimes it's the team who gets the goalie the Stanley cup not the goalie getting the team the Stanley cup. And in this case the pens TEAM won MAF a cup. |
