I dont see how he can be any less effective than Rinaldo was last season. - PhillySportsGuy
Honestly, a loose stick could probably match Rinaldo's effectiveness last season.
I had hope he'd turned a corner after the lockout season, but he was next to worthless last season. |

MLB has the WAR stat and if hockey had it, Rinaldo would have had a negative WAR.
I dont want to make too much of one season because he was good the year before, but last season was REALLY bad for him. |

Yeah, he really took a couple steps back. If you're going to play that role, you need to draw a lot more calls than he did. |

Personally I hope Rinaldo is the 13th forward or permanently in the AHL. All of the lineups I have made exclude him. Even if Laughton doesn't make the team out of camp.
Rinaldo is a penalty magnet, even if it isn't a penalty, chances are it will be called a penalty. I think what happened to Hartnell is a harbinger of things to come for Rinaldo. Its pretty clear Berube doesn't want to be at the top of the penalty lists anymore. |

He seemed to be under control the year before last and seemed more disciplined.
Last year's " dumb penalties" were more frequent. I guess Hall won't be back? I thought he was a great 4 line player and would like to keep him if it came down to those two. |

When he crushes someone with a clean hit and gets a penalty I can live with that. Those kind of hits have a cumulative effect on an opponent and even if he gets a penalty, the opposition will be looking over their shoulders every time he is on the ice. Two seasons ago he seemed to make vast improvements in that area.
Last season there were too many penalties of the undisciplined variety. The one in Dallas really sticks in my memory. He needs to get back to that guided missile philosophy.
We need Rinaldo to be a smart bomb, not a carpet bomb. |

Hall may well be back, no one else has signed him. My guess is that he already has an invite to camp on a tryout contract if he can't land a deal elsewhere. |

I'm not sure it is in his makeup to play smart on a consistent basis, but hopefully I'm wrong. |

I think we just need a better hockey player in the lineup. Shouldn't be hard to find. |

I find when a new player enters the league and teams/officials don't have a book on them, their minds aren't made up yet, so there are a lot of free passes. Rookies start off promising (the unknown) and then struggled their second season because the league has gotten to know this player for one year. It doesn't matter if they're a skilled player or a hard hitting grinder. What was once new isn't anymore. It's up to the player to adjust and adapt. |

He's got a bad reputation, which is mostly deserved. That means he's not going to get many breaks.
My issue is, in conjunction with that is, that he's not a good enough player to overcome it. Take Carcillo. He's an idiot and a meathead, but he's also good enough to have a couple of double digit goal seasons. Zac might occasionally score a pretty goal and he has good speed, but I can't see him getting enough ice time to ever score more than 3 or 4 goals in a season |

Agreed
And if you are going to carry a guy who will only get you 3-4 goals per season, I'd rather it be a guy like Hall who can check, kill penalties, win faceoffs and mix it up if needed. |
