They have some good young defensemen coming up who could probably fill that void at least in terms of skill.

Yea, I think they basically deemed him the odd man out when they looked at what he made versus what he produced. Emelin will fill the void and played with a lot of heart in the playoffs

Granted he's been healthy the last two years but played 65 of 246 the previous 3.

Players don't always perform well in contract years. I can't see him figuring into this teams plans long term. Anything shy of an absolute monster year will see probably see him dealt at the deadline.

He's our Linus Omark. Will never be successful in the NHL all AHL for this guy. No real need for him to stick around. Should've traded him awhile back when his stock was still kind of high. Now it's barely nothing.

Kid showed a bit of promise, why would they have traded him?

It's happened a million times, to every team in the league.

There are players that are no good for the NHL but too good for the AHL (the Sabers - that's for our Montreal friend in Garth's comments - have had many: Mongrain, Robertson, Mancari, Verret, Gage, etc).
