I thought it was interesting the next post after this compared Brayden Schenn to Kadri. Kadri is not a very good center defensively. Brayden Schenn I believe is a little better defensively and maybe he Schenn won't become a true number one center, I just find it interesting that people want Schenn at center so badly. Some even considering Laughton for the wing before Schenn. I scratch my head because Laughton might already be the better two way center already and he only has like five NHL games under his belt already. In three seasons Schenn has already seen a lot of wing. He's started the last two seasons on RW with Giroux and Hartnell. - SuperSchennBros
When Schenn had the same amount of NHL experience, he was being called the best prospect not in the NHL by some and considered an outstanding, young two way player.
He was coming off a great WJC and a very good WHL season, and he's not much older than Laughton is now. |

Mmm, think the way I wrote that didn't make sense.
Meant that Kadri and Seguin are better than a good number of the current #1C's around the league, even though they don't play a complete game. Seguin's definitely got a bit more headroom, but Kadri is supremely skilled in his own right. - Tomahawk
Ok. I got ya. I still don't think kadri will ever become one of the best 30 centers in hockey. There are teams where he would be the #1 center though |

Greene, maybe. I think Faulk WILL BE better, or at least probably will be, but isn't yet. - jmatchett383
Myers and Hamonic are close ones, too. I think I'd take Coburn over the former for sure right now... Hamonic/Coburn is too close to call for me. |

Question for the masses:
While I don't think the Flyers have the worst defense in the league, how many team are there that don't have a better single defender than anyone on the Flyers (Basically, what team would Coburn be the #1 defender for)? So far, I've come up with:
Calgary (Giordano, maybe?)
Carolina (Faulk, maybe?)
Dallas
Edmonton (Schultz < Coburn)
New Jersey (Greene, maybe?)
That's about it. Thoughts? - jmatchett383
Who is the Ducks #1? Cam Fowler?
Coburn is close there.
What about the Aves, Eric Johnson?
I guess I'd take Eric Johnson over Coburn but they aren't that far apart.

I'm glad you used 'might' in that sentence.
We don't really have much to judge Laughton's two way game at the NHL level at this point. - Marc D
I think camp will be very interesting this year. You will see some players fighting (possibly literally) for a spot. There seems to be at least one spot both up front and on the back end to be taken if someone wants it badly enough. |

Yeah, that's who I was going with there. I think I'd take Myers over Coburn but I'm split on Hamonic. |

Gonna be Hampus Lindholm soon, and I don't think it'll be that close then.

Hampus Lindholm and Cam Fowler are both players I'd take. And I think EJ has a pretty good lead over Coburn. |

I think it's either a wash or Lindholm now, and that gap is only gonna get wider. |

I have no choice but to use "might" because it's all projection right now. Even Brayden Schenn was compared to Mike Richards when entering the league. However the way Laughton has been used in the world juniors, he might be the more balanced defensive center. I actually confuse Lecavalier and Schenn at times on the ice. |

Very respectable person. For a guy who once said he didn't want to be a role model, he sure has turned into one. |

Ghost is going to impress with his puck carrying and shot in the preseason, but in his own end not so much.
Laughton I think will be in the top ten forwards at camp, but not in the top three for centers.
If the French guy turns out as good as Raffles I will be very happy.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for him. I remember once he was asked about the Sixers chances. He said, "They were just two players away from a championship level team...Doc & Wilt"
He has become on basketball telecasts what I had hoped Roenick would be on NHL broadcasts. |

Your not telling me anything I don't already know. He carred the 2010 World junior team on his b asck. However do we have any reason to believe that he wasn't moved from center to wing at the lower ranks? Schenn played LW to Sean Couturier during the rookie exhibition game prior to the 2011-12 season also. Schenn gets moved around but Couturier never will for example. |
