Ghost is going to impress with his puck carrying and shot in the preseason, but in his own end not so much.
Laughton I think will be in the top ten forwards at camp, but not in the top three for centers.
If the French guy turns out as good as Raffles I will be very happy. - Marc D
I agree with you there on all accounts. I think Ghost will make some mistakes in preseason, but it's gonna be damn fun to watch him make them. |

Your not telling me anything I don't already know. He carred the 2010 World junior team on his b asck. However do we have any reason to believe that he wasn't moved from center to wing at the lower ranks? Schenn played LW to Sean Couturier during the rookie exhibition game prior to the 2011-12 season also. Schenn gets moved around but Couturier never will for example. - SuperSchennBros
What does being moved at lower ranks matter?
Yes, Couturier will not get moved, because he's not just a good defensive center, he's a near elite defensive center. Not sure what Couturier has to do with a discussion about the team keeping Schenn at center and moving Laughton to wing. |

Couturier should be a center. It's simply a question of whether or not he's your #2 or #3 center. If Schenn or Laughton have to move to wing, so be it. Coots stays at center. |

No doubt.
If Laughton makes the team as one of the 9 best forwards, I'd rather him play LW with Couturier & Read than 4th line C with Rinaldo or Rosehill...I also think Schenn could end up at wing.

Question for the masses:
While I don't think the Flyers have the worst defense in the league, how many team are there that don't have a better single defender than anyone on the Flyers (Basically, what team would Coburn be the #1 defender for)? So far, I've come up with:
Calgary (Giordano, maybe?)
Carolina (Faulk, maybe?)
Dallas
Edmonton (Schultz < Coburn)
New Jersey (Greene, maybe?)
That's about it. Thoughts? - jmatchett383

The first game in pre-season where Ghost does anything resembling something positive will result in an article (from someone) espousing the need to keep Ghost on the team this season.
As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet there's a blogger or beat writer with that story already pre-written in a "draft" folder somewhere. |

I think what I'm getting at is pretty clear and obvious. If Laughton proves to be the better defensive center, it's nothing but wing for Schenn. Do we know for a fact Schenn hasn't played wing for an extended period of time in junior? |

Buffalo - Myers is close, to me.
Columbus - Wiesniewski
Islanders - Hamonic is a push
Toronto - I'd take Gardiner or Phaneuf,
Washington - John Carlson is one whole level better. |

Except with Morin, it's his first fight or big hit.
With Ghost, it's the first time that he rapes 4 ECHL-level players in a preseason game and beats a 5th string goalie. |

The opposite is true, Schenn has played quite a bit at wing in the NHL. You seem to be saying that it's no doubt that Laughton will be a better defensive center. I'm saying that he's played 5 games and it's not certain he will.
The other point I'm making is, that if Laughton makes the team, it may well be best for the team if he's playing LW with Couturier and Read, especially if Berube keeps the pairs he likes together (Giroux & Voracek, Schenn & Simmonds, Read & Couturier). If that's the case, Laughton is basically stuck on the 4th line. i;d rather he play LW with Couturier than center with Rinaldo or Rosehill. He's not going to benefit from playing with untalented goons. |

IMO, Coburn is superior to all those listed when it comes to shutting down other team's best players.
If I'm looking for offense I may take Wiesniewski, Phanuef or Carlson, but that's not going to make the Flyers a better team.
Gardiner has a long ways to go before a coach can even think of trusting him to match up against top players in the league. I like Hamonic, he's close, but he's not there yet.

It would be great if there was a waiver that allowed it, say the NHL team gives the junior team a cash payout or something...but I do understand the reason for the rules. |

What are you talking about? I never suggested that Schenn hasn't played a lot of wing at the NHL level. I want him at wing. In fact I've seen more penalty killing time then Brayden Schenn has since he broke his foot during his first full Rookie season. One would suggest you have to be a decent defensive forward to be on the PK. |
