Bettman for Flyers coach! - jmatchett383
I'll tell you what, the way he worked the crowd at the draft was stellar. He was fantastic at the podium and handling the boos and egging the crowd on. |

The issue is that he was used on the left side. Sounds kind of dumb, but if you watch Vinny, he primarily likes to set up in the right wing side of the slot and fire away when the team is in the offensive zone. He gets a good look there being a lefty shooter and he's simply not as comfortable on the other side of the ice.
It's why my first two suggestions for Vinny(if he couldn't be traded) were RW with Giroux or centering Voracek. The other option would be to have two scoring lines, with Giroux, Schenn, Voracek and Simmonds being the key guys, and continue using Couturier & Read as a shut down unit and then putting Vinny on a line with guys like Bellemare, Raffl or Akeson and make the "fourth" line basically a 3rd scoring line, rather than another defensive line.
The hope would be that Raffl and/or Bellemare can handle the skating and two way play and that Vinny could provide offense and help the other two produce points. - Jsaquella
completely agree.
I will take schenn + G and vinny + jake
Or
g + vinny and schenn+ jake. Either scenario works In my mind

Baseball is a lot more physically demending than you think. Just the motion of throwing a baseball or swinging a bat is an incredibaly violent motion for the human body to handle. It's also one of the hardest sports to master in the world. - JonnyHammerstix
Hard to master, sure, just like a Yo-Yo or the banjo. But I'll stand around in one spot for 9 half innings, moving occasionally, and swing a stick 9-10 times a game with the option of running/jogging if I make contact without exerting as much energy as I will by skating/spinning/jumping/carrying (sometimes while carrying a woman) at full speed for 3-5 minutes. |

FWIW, there is more "physical/athletic competition" involved in figure skating (where you are trying to achieve victory) than things like golf or baseball. - jmatchett383
Oh yeah, to be clear I'm not trying to slight the athletic commitment figure skating and all represent, not even a little. |

Meh fair enough. People who think it's boring and don't understand the sport (no offense) often have this opinion. |

I'm just not sure how a "game" (to me) where you spend half of it crouching slightly and the other half sitting on a bench is a "sport" but something where you're in constant motion and operating constantly at top speed is not. |

They need to have a woman pick up the man for a change... would be a great idea for the inevitable The Cutting Edge sequel... I'd totally watch it if they brought back DB Sweeney. |

The good thing is, they have options. The coach just has to be flexible. One of the things I had an issue with Berube was in regards to him being too rigid with his pairs. Giroux was almost always with Jake, Schenn with Simmonds and Couturier with Read. they were pretty effective, but I feel that mix them up and matching them differently could have improved the overall 5 on 5 play of the entire team. |

Think I only said the parade needed to end... not sure that means no players whatsoever. - Tomahawk
It's weird, though, that Shanahan did replace Dave Poulin.
Poulin is likely one of the more educated ex-players you'll find out there. I'm fairly certain he did finish his degree from Notre Dame(I think he did, anyways). He was even a financial adviser at one point, I think.
So, it's not like Shanahan fired some knuckledragger and brought in guys with green eye shades. It's likely Shanahan wanted HIS guys as much as it is about getting more diverse experience in the front office.
Maybe that experience didn't translate for Poulin into embracing different ideas? I don't know. |

The objective metric of victory versus subjective (i.e. scores rendered by judges) is the difference. |

No, I get what you're saying. But aren't balls/strikes/called outs subjective in their nature as well since they are decided by humans who can err? Not trying to start a big argument. I guess we just have different criteria. |

At the same time, what was Poulin's role? Did he handle the financial aspect or was he evaluating players?
In an interview last year, Poulin made comments that suggested Claude Loiselle was the guy who had the cap management side of things
http://mapleleafshotstove...tract-could-develop-soon/
“I would caution one thing. I know there is a website that has become extremely popular in terms of cap knowledge. It’s not exact. There’s a cushion base that’s figured in here… nobody can sit outside our room and tell us exactly what our cap is other than Claude Loiselle, and that’s corresponding directly with the league. The cap number that is out there, while it’s in the ballpark, it’s not exactly accurate.”
Poulin was a very smart player and has an impressive collegiate background. But it's fair to say if he was a prime guy in player evaluation, that he did a poor job with the Leafs.
That's why I was lukewarm to the Flyers hiring him. |

Could you hit a 95mph fastball? Would you even stand in the batters box with something that fast coming at you? Could you field a line-drive? A grounder? Could you throw a ball accurately more than 30 feet?
You're way off base about baseball (pun intended).
Let me know when ice skaters compete 162 times per year. |

The tradition in marriage that should change ASAFP is the outdated ritual of buying an expensive engagement ring for the woman. |
