Hamilton had said it multiple times throughout the season. Nolan himself has admitted to be not much of an X's and O's guy. And Homer came in here last night saying that the guy does absolutely nothing. Now, I think sbroads is most likely correct, and that it's probably exaggerated, but like I said, last night, he wouldn't be the first head coach in professional sports to primarily be a motivator, while the details are a distant second on his hierarchy of responsibilities. However, those tenures usually don't end very well. They end up getting out coached in just about every facet of the game (similar to the way he was with this team in 1997...that Ottawa series had no business being as close as it was, and Philadelphia just made them look plain stupid at times).
With the team in the shape it is, it may not mean that much, but I'd rather have a coach that can motivate players, and get them in the habit of paying attention to detail. There's no rule that says a team can't be skilled, tough, and really smart. - buffalofan19
And he's probably been the most annoying dad to all his kids hockey coaches over the years.

I would like to ask both, why "x's and o's" are so important...especially in light of ron "x's and o's" Rolston who's tenure was a complete disaster - Michael Pachla

agreed...mostly
you may like this piece
http://www.thehockeynews....-much-as-it-is-xs-and-os/ - Michael Pachla
That was a good piece. Though I had to laugh at what "Boomer" Gordon said on SiriusXM when they were talking about that: "That's too long of a flight. I just would have called him."
In all seriousness though, like the article says, it's about relationships AS MUCH as it is X's and O's. That facet of the game isn't going away. There will always be strategies that will be able to mask a team's shortcomings, especially as technology and video continues to grow. |

From some of the stories I've heard, Pat Kane's and Cody Hodgson's fathers could give him a serious run for that title. |

If Craig Rivet is on your all-time overrated team, your franchise is a joke. |

I'm sure they could. I'm really just making the joke that Nolan isn't an "X's and O's" guy, but has been probably up his kids coaches asses about X's and O's his whole career. |

That always annoyed me. Just advertise the teams, not "Lundqvist and the Rangers take on Kane and the Blackhawks." |

Bias for and against a given sport aside
Unless you were a die-hard Cavs (or Heat) fan, would you watch a game of theirs on TV if LeBron weren't playing?
How about Denver without Manning, or the Patriots without Manning?

Kind of unrelated, but he's also the guy that told Jordan "There's no I in team", to which Jordan responded, "but there's an I in Win". |
