Hope they can add a few more quality forwards and another good goaltender or 2 to the list over the next couple years. |

After spotting the Rangers a two goal lead in game 1 and 2, the kings absolutely dominated possession against the Rangers the rest of those games. Without Lundqvist, those games don't make it to overtime. Much like the Flyers game 7 which if Mason doesn't stand on his head in the 2nd period, the Flyers lose that game by 3-4 goals.
I am not a fancy stat guy, but it is pretty obvious when a team is dominating possession and thus the much better team regardless of the actual score. Relying on a goalie to play out of his mind like Mason did against the Rangers is not a great plan for cup success. - psuhockey
A lot of teams win Cups due to their goaltending. Is Mason proven? No, but he looked like he can get the job done. Kings were dominant in possession but that is where your goaltending has to come up big if you are the opposing team. Keeping your team in the game is the goalies job because as we know anything can happen in the playoffs. An improvement on D and 5-5 play... The Flyers can compete in a 7 game series. We don't have to worry like we used to about numerous soft goals deflating the team in a series.

I can't edit it. The ads are covering up the "EDIT" button.
Edit: Hacked the code. I mean, found the URL for the "Edit" function and kept entering comment numbers in increments of one until I found it. For me, that constitutes "hacking." |

Mason plays that whole series the Flyers win it. - MBFlyerfan
Maybe maybe not. Mason had a bad game 5 so your are under the impression he would have had another stellar game in games 1 and 3 and not subpar.
Regardless, did you think the flyers outplayed the Rangers that series? |

Mason was under siege that entire game. The fact that he only gave up 3 goals was astounding. Shot for shot, he outplayed Lundqvist that series. |

The Rangers won the series so yes they did. But not to the extent you seem to believe they did.

I think I am the oldest poster here. I remember taking a girlfriend to a game at the Spectrum when Bunny Laroque was the backup and he actually started- perhaps against the Canadiens and something like a 5-5 or 6-6 tie. I dont have the heart to go through the search to confirm that and I am not sure which of the 2 girls I was dating went with me |

Outside of game 6 that was the most lopsided series in the playoffs. Flyers had the edge in special teams which barely kept their heads above water |

The other side of the what-if coin: there's also the possibility that he could have performed the same (or worse) than Emery did in those first three starts, right?
Emery wasn't terrible. |

Reading the title I was wondering if something went down with Vinnie L.
Wrong Vinnie! Ha.
I like the prospects, especially the D.
Speaking of VL, will his situation become a distraction for the team this year?
Once a team makes it public they are trying to trade you and then the trade doesn't happen, well it is not the ideal situation.
I guess if they get off to a good start then it won't be discussed as much, winning fixes a lot of these situations. Potentially it seems like it could be an ongoing story.
VL is a real pro but this has to be tough for him. - Marc D
If trading Lecavalier becomes a distraction, it's a distraction of the club's own making, not the player himself. |
