I guess you can make a case for each of those guys being on the list. I'm just surprised no one pick Giroux at all |

Sounds like the 2004 team against Tampa. - SuperSchennBros
Very similar actually. key dmen, Jim Watson and Eric Desjardins, were out with injuries. That team was deep at forward and had an amazing season but their D was a mess. Due to injuries to Watson and Bob Dailey, they were forced to rely way too much on journeyman like Bathe, Barnes and Busniuk, and while he was very talented, Behn Wilson was extremely inconsistent and prone to terrible giveaways. |

Good to know that they actually look further than the past year's stats, lol.
Getzlaf at 4 and Malkin at 13? Price over Rask and Hanky? Youch. And yeah, no love for the Orange Jesus. |

Yeah. I thought Getzlaf was really high considering he's 29.
I just don't understand how they left off Giroux. |

In Jay Greenberg's book, Clarke said that they were just out of gas by that point. A lot of key players were playing injured, the D was being held together by glue and the Isles were just deeper, and healthier. He thought that even had they won game 6, it would have took a miracle for them to win game 7, even though the game was at the Spectrum. They were just that spent. - BiggE
they looked tired in the minutes before the goal. i still think if they had won game 6, they would have taken it at home. |

Agreed!
I know we're all living off the high of Giroux coming in third in point production for the second time in three seasons but we should also consider Stamkos was hurt and I believe Malkin missed sometime. I'm actually very interested in seeing a season where all the top young stars have a clear healthy season and seeing how Giroux holds up then. - SuperSchennBros
Since the 2010 Olympics, here's an in depth list of all Canadian born NHLers who have scored more points than Claude Giroux:
I'd say he holds up pretty well. |

I'm not saying Giroux doesn't hold up well. He's within the top five on my list I just posted moments ago. |

I'm pretty sure they only count entries where a serious attempt at offense is made... there probably are times when that one guy sweeping shallow into the zone somehow ends up w/ the puck on a dump-in and it becomes an offensive foray, but short of that, I think the data is pretty much supposed to be line-dump free.
- Tomahawk
Ha! Would have helped if I had read the lead in more carefully and not jumped straight to the stats. Over time, you can see some value there. Still, dumps are better than neutral zone turnovers, a forecheck involving putting a hit on the opponent can have a nice effect and you can always get that neutral zone turnover yourself after a dump in. As a coach what I'd like to see is a grade on those individual decisions regarding when to carry and when to dump. Forcing a carry in that just isn't there does more harm than good. Same with dillying on the perimeter rather than making a play at the end. |

Don't get me wrong- this kid could be special. But man....people need to chill. Come talk to me after the next 2 seasons before we crown him as one of the best players to build a franchise around. |

For sure, if dumping is the best read/option, by all means do it, even if it means you're more likely to not end up w/ a shot/chance on net (and the other team will likely take the puck).
I think the debate is more centered over the instances where coaches are instructing their lesser players/lower lines to default to dumping in because they feel the that those guys carrying it in might not yield the same risk/reward... the stats seem to be challenging that assumption. |

I really hope that Nathan MacKinnon becomes a top five or top ten player because the league needs more. |

I don't follow. Most top tens I have read have 12-17 players. |
