I don't follow. Most top tens I have read have 12-17 players.

Pretty sure this is right. Confirmed by numerous sources including Bill Nye and Neil DeGrasse Tyson

But you can still only have 10 top 10 players. It's like a rule or something.

During the 90's I thought it was a lot easier to point out who the top 10 players were.

For sure, if dumping is the best read/option, by all means do it, even if it means you're more likely to not end up w/ a shot/chance on net (and the other team will likely take the puck).

I think the debate is more centered over the instances where coaches are instructing their lesser players/lower lines to default to dumping in because they feel the that those guys carrying it in might not yield the same risk/reward... the stats seem to be challenging that assumption.

The coaches might want those forecheck hits too. Just like body punches in boxing, they won't get you the knockout but it can pay off in the later rounds. So many factors involved . . . do you have the lead or not? How much time is left in the game or even the period?

I've messed a bit with data bases over the years and the stats they can produce. They can be very useful, the key is accurate data, which goes without saying, and more importantly good querying. Coaches/GMs aren't necessarily going to ask the same questions as fans or stat geeks.

1. Crosby
2. Ovechkin
3. Stamkos
4. Malkin
5. Giroux
6. Weber
7. Chara
8. Tavares
9. Doughty
10. Lundqvist
11. Toews
12. P. Kane
13. Kopitar
14. Price
15. Keith

I placed the Black Hawks players late because they're world class players but have each other.

- SuperSchennBros

Then why didn't you put the Penguins players later?

3. Bourque
4. Roy
5. Hull
6. Yzerman
7. Sakic
8. MacInnis

Maybe it wasn't as easy as I thought it might be. I wish I could fit Chris Chelios and Mark Messier in this top 10. Lol

Malkin and Crosby do not need one another to carry a team.

I think the MacKinnon hype comes with his play during the playoffs. Kid that young stepping up when the stars are at their best is quite special. I think he has "superstar" written all over him.

I will agree with the argument that he has to do it for numerous seasons, but after his rookie season, I don't see why he can't.

Nope the WHL scouts I asked didn't seem to know why at the time, never followed up though.
