What negativity? The internet rumor negativity? - sbroads24
Homer's statement a couple days ago really didn't state much that already wasn't known about him. Sure, "the guy does absolutely nothing" is probably hyperbole, but it's well known back to 1997 that he's more hands-off than most people out there. It's one thing to let assistants handle the details. It's another thing to not have a hand in what's going on. He's been known to be a "I don't care what the gameplan is, just play real hard". It's why the Sabres got their asses kicked in the 2nd round in 1997, and should have lost in the first round if not for a hole in Ron Tugnutt's glove. |

Let's be honest with ourselves here, we have a 30th place team, we weren't getting a Mike Babcock here when Rolston was fired. We got a head coach with experience, who is respected by the players. Something that was severely lacking here.
Nolan IMO will be gone when this team is ready to jump from young and upcoming to contender. There is literally no reason to be upset that he's the coach at this juncture. The young kids will be sheltered, the vets will show them how to act professional. This is in fact a step forward. It's finally being run like a professional and competitive organization. |

All I know is I want a defensive coach that is going to tell these guys to stand up at the blueline, none of this back up to the goalie crap like we had. |

Teams go through different phases. When the Hawks were still an up and coming team, they were coached by Denis Savard. Once they were ready to jump into contention, Coach Q was brought on board. We will probably have Nolan for a couple seasons and then be bringing someone else on board. |

And despite Savard never "doing it as a coach" he was a fine interim solution until Quennville came aboard
The worry about Nolan is 100% pointless |

Not only do I agree with this, but when Nolan is let go, what will he have to be mad about? Sitting on the couch vs coaching in the NHL. |

He could feel mad that he wasn't given a chance when this team was intact and ready to compete, but that's something he will have to deal with. I mean it's not inconceivable that he sticks around but I doubt it |

He was still in the player development business until now, so it's not like he's been sitting in his rocking chair.
There's no denying that he hasn't been a coach for a while, but he's still been in the business at a hands on level. - stashu
If I could do this gently, he was removed from the Islanders Exec Player of Development in 2010

'perciate it. I find it odd that the Islanders own site doesn't say that on his page.

It is odd, but they're not the first nor will they be the last big company to not keep their website up to date. |

This is from EK's blog on Subban
"It is one thing to ask a defenseman to play 35 minutes in a game. Many can handle that kind of workload because they are defenseman and they have the ability to play a controlled game using there and it utilizing their energy in short spurts.
PK Subban is not that kind of defenseman. He is not only their best defenseman he is there best forward. PK plays 200 feet games not 70 foot games. He does not play a controlled style utilizing his energy and spirits. He goes all out all the time."
It's an interesting point and one that I have made describing Myers style of play. IMO you need your franchise defensemen to play in all situations, and him being out of gas from having to act like a forward is a poor excuse. That's why I'm hoping that Ristolainen will provide that 25-27 minute a night player that will allow Myers to play the Subban style he did during last season

So apparently 6 cups as a player and 1 as an assistant isn't 'more bonafide'? Come on man. - TheSabresTaco

It begs the question, though, how valuable is that kind of player really? To me, if a player "needs" another player to do what he does best, his value is overstated.
Now, granted, Myers is getting $5.5 million a year for the foreseeable future, while Subban is asking for $8.5 million. |

Yeah, but you can't teach someone to do something you've never done. And he's done it. Which is why I have no reason to doubt him yet. - TheSabresTaco

Or they allowed him to keep the title as a figurehead due to his HOF status and greatness as a player in the organization.
Some very smart poster on another Sabres site from Long Island said he has seen hin greeting fans over the last few years at games and open practices. |

Never played a lick of NHL hockey.
Became an assistant at age 23
Head Coach at 24
Worked the ranks until he was hired as Head Coach of the Blues at age 34. |

If Myers can't be on the ice at the end of the game to protect a lead because he's gassed or not responsible enough then IMO it's an issue (which Subban has been left on the bench) however on this team that hasn't been the case with Myers.
However it becomes a non-issue if you have that rock #2 defensemen back there.
It's like in Chicago, sometimes Keith and Seabrook get all the offensive opportunities, and Hjalmarsson gets stuck protecting the D-zone. |
