It's funny Pens will have to go to arb and kind of bash a guy who has never even stepped foot in their lockerroom. - dbell646
That can't be a good welcome to the guy. Weird situation for sure. |

As expected. I knew all along it would be for $2.2M.
Now lets hope he plays his ass off now. |

That is average annual value. Wonder if that might mean like $2M this year and $2.4M next year or something like that.
If its 2.2 this year that only leaves $3.2M for Sutter if we want to remain a million under the cap. |

That's fair deal for him. We will see if it was a fair deal for us in the fall. I'd expect sutter done later today now |

Pirates to acquire everyone today E5 - dbell646
I wouldn't mind to see them get Lackey from the Red Sox. He's been good in the postseason.
I'm surprised the A's just traded Cespedes for a rental in Lester and Gomes. |

I guess his agent must have felt the pressure after the Pens requested a one year deal (if it went to arbitration). |

Honest question, does Sutter bring more to the table than Spaling?? |

It probably has no bearing on contract but Sutter and Spaling have the same general regular season numbers.
Good thing we got Goc, Downie, Comeau at bargain bin prices or else we wouldnt even have a shot at Sutter. Still think a trade happens at some point. Maybe they sign Sutter for $3.5M (leaving $700k in cap space) and make a move during the season knowing they have to send some salary out in order to bring anyone in.
Edit - we still need to have a 13th forward on the roster too I believe so gotta take that into account. |

I think so. At least he showed promise in the playoffs. Sutter is slick with the puck and can be better without Pyatt or Glass. |

Hard to tell considering Spaling hasn't played in a Penguin sweater yet. Being biased, yes he does. |

I don't think they have to have that 13th forward. Can always call up an AHL guy when someone gets hurt. |

I feel that's a decent deal for both sides.
Now we'll see what happens to Sutter. I still like him as a 3C and I hope they can work something out with him that is reasonable. |

It's just interesting to look at the stats. Spaling had more points in less games, had better possession #s, all while playing on a worse team. It just seems like they are very similar, but people are upset at giving Spaling 2.2M, and are ready to give Sutter 3.2M |

Wouldn't it be sweet if we traded Adams/Scuderi to Calgary for a 7th RP?
We could be giving time to Despres/Dumoulin and Megna. |

So I plugged it into capgeek...with Megna in the lineup we BARELY fit under the cap....and thats assuming we get Sutter for no more than $3.25M.

The difference here is that Spaling got time with Stalberg, Legwand and Smith. They ain't no Glass or Pyatt. |
