13 million to sign 3-4 Defenseman and 3-4 forwards including Leddy and Sadd who will take half that amount. They are not out of the woods yet. - Peterg
A top team with a lot of quality veteran players is always going to be tight against the cap. |

Red Sox making deals. Phillies sitting around with their thumbs up their butts - PhillySportsGuy
They keep trying to include Lacavalier in the deals, no one wants him and he refused to play for the Expos. |

I think that when OV gets his Federov it's more likely that "Federov" has a better chance at changing his game to compliment OV than the other way around. I haven't seen a more one dimensional player in this niche since Brett Hull who was mentioned earlier. - mayorofangrytown
That might be due more to Ovechkin's reluctance and stubborness to do so. But there is no question that he can become a better all around player if he puts his mind to it. And the team would be better off for it. |

I'd take Doughty and not think twice about it. Surprised he didn't run away with this. |

I read where Tolkein's son is not a fan of what Jackson is doing.
I guess no Silmarillon movies will ever happen. |

They got Joe Kelly and Craig for Lackey
Why can't the Phillies pull this poop off ever???!?!?! - PhillySportsGuy
Wow, that's how you sell. Guy having a down year after an All-Star season and a solid back of the rotation starter. Both for John Lackey. Can't even believe that. |

That was my thought too.
With premium in defenseman he's the guy. |

I think several Phillies have worse deals than VL. |

As was Viggo Mortensen (Aragon).
Something along the lines of Jackson caught up in his own hype and making it too flashy/reliant on effects. Just don't like the video game feel myself.
Silmarillon is mainly elves no?

I don't follow it but am a little surprised they can't trade some of their pitchers.
Ryan Howard being untradable I get. |

Because Amaro is the worst gm nagotiator maybe ever and lives in a fantasy world that they can be competitive again next year with the right moves. |

Apparently, Amaro asked the Dodgers for their top 3 prospects (all 3 are top 20 prospects in all of baseball). The Dodgers pretty much hung up the phone before Amaro could say another word.

$13 million is purely a MJL hypothetical... IF the cap went up $5 million this season it would have helped everyone out... But it went up $2 million in actuality. I agree with you... It'll be tight. I bet that 'core' as we know it is as good as gone by next off season. |

They have plenty of bats. They needed an experienced postseason pitcher. Lester is a postseason beast |

I think it's brainless. Cesedes is one of the best in the league and he's like 23 |

I'd hazard a guess that they foresaw him leaving after next season to a team with a bigger payroll and budget. So they decided to go all out this season and solidify their rotation with Lester. He'll more than likely be a rental too that's what has me wondering. |

One of the best in the league? He's a nice player, but he's not even an all star. He's also a FA after next season and will likely be gone.
Are you sure you aren't confusing him with the other Cuban players? Puig and Abreu are both great Cuban hitters. |

He leaves a lot to be desired. He's a nice power hitter but that average and OBP are pretty underwhleming. I'd even rate Cubs' prospect Jorge Soler higher than him when it comes to Cubans. |
