Well, we'll certainly see what these guys are made of. Lots of experience, just not NHL experience. Could be a good thing, perhaps not. - grand-magus
I don't see this group here long term and you or someone mentioned Luke Richardson as a Murray guy from their days in Ottawa. Luke has had a good run in Binghamton. |

Hopefully someone hasn't snatched Luke up before it's time, ala Kevin Dineen. |

Problem is, I think Richardson gets a job before the Sabres are "ready" to move on from Nolan. |

I would tend to agree. He could get a job next year because he agreed to just a one year extension in Binghamton. |

Oh well.
There's always someone else around the bend, if Luke's gone.
I wonder if Murray's got a book on all the coaches, too. |

Plenty of coaches to consider when they get to that point. |

And plenty of coaches will hopefully look at the group of players we've assembled and go, "(frank) yes, sign me up" |

I'm a Broncos fan I know everything there is to know about the guy and he's gonna have a breakout year this year - Pegullaville
I would argue that he had a breakout year last year. I am also a Broncos fan and I saw him play in the pre-season and knew he was going to be a stud with Peyton. He's a top-3 TE for sure this season. |

blount stealing red zone carries from bell
nelson and lacy stealing catches from cobb
it's close, but bell is going get even more targets IMO this season out of the backfield - homiedclown
Bell is actually a better goal line runner than Blount. I don't think Blount vultures anything from Bell. |

There's someone in my league that keeps yelling that we should draft based on last years standings, but that's because they always end up at the bottom. I don't think it would matter if they did get to draft #1. I'm fairly certain they would still be at the bottom at the end of the year anyway. - HonkFortheGoose
The best draft spots are at the back of the 1st round anyway, imo. |

From another site from someone who claims to know Coolen:
"I predicted this hire in a thread more than a month ago.
I know Coolen. He coached the university team in my hometown 20 years ago. What I can say about him is that he was considered to be a player's coach who was a strong motivator and got the most out of his players. He was a strong in game coach who left much of the x and 0s to his assistant coaches (one of whom was a good friend of mine).
Sound familiar?
He is a career hockey guy who has kicked around coaching on both sides of the Atlantic. He is the reason Nolan got the Latvian job. His highest level of coaching has been as an assistant in the AHL.
I understand Nolan's loyalty, but I hope he is up for this."

I've come around on the "who cares, these guys will be gone when this team is really ready to make some noise" argument. Still, I wonder why this exercise in futility is really necessary. |

What if it all works out ? The players get it and flourish with the coaching staff. Do we disrupt the chemistry of the team ? |

I agree, this will not be the coaching staff with 6.5-7.0 years of collective NHL experience who will be leading this team when then they are contenders so I hope this helps the tank because that is my goal for the year. That along with some sound player development. Maybe these junior/international/college/coaches who have been out of the coaching loop for 12 years but are HOF players, can do that. |

If the players flourish and GMTM works well with Nolan then keep them all. |

I'm up for whatever happens this season.
I want McEichel, obviously, but I also want this team to be fun to watch. I think it will be. I think we're going to see some good, hard-working hockey this year, albeit loaded with much losing. But, imo, not as much as last year.
I'm not positive that these are the right coaches, but whatever kids make this team this year will have plenty of veteran leadership to sponge off of, which will help, in lieu of X's and O's.
Either way, I'm sure Pierre McGuire will tell us all about Coolen and Flynn. |
