Well Greening can battle the other 10 bottom 6 forwards for a spot. I'd take Ottawa's 1st for Dion though. In fact, there's only 4 players I wouldn't trade for Ottawa's 1st. - walshyleafsfan
No ones trading their first pick for dion Phaneuf in a stacked draft year.. Especially a team like Ottawa that could finish anywhere from 13th - 6th in the eastern conference. |

Colin Greening + 2015 1st for Dion Phaneuf (leafs retain $0.5M each year)..... Sens would you do it?

Trading a D-man
Which D-man (dmen) would you trade if push came to shove. Erik Karlsson isn't going anywhere but it's a toss up after that. Methot? hometown boy UFA-to-be. Cowen? trading potential for an accomplished guy (in other words giving up on him, or trading him for a player you want more). Weircioch? He is a great puck mover but where does he fit. Is he defensively capable. Phillips? NMC, don't see him waiving it. Boroweici, Gryba, Ceci (doubt it as much as anyone outside Karlsson)
Bobby Ryan
The Salary cap is at $69M. That means that a $6.9M player is eating up 10% of the salary cap. If Ryan was offered a 8 year $56M deal today; would you sign him or wait? - AlfieisKing
Gryba, Boroweicki are throw in to sweeten a trade. Ek is off limits. Wierciotch has value if we actually play the guy. Cowen I'd like to see another year of before giving up. Methot has value. Philips has no value.. Not sure why we resigned him
& yes where do I sign ??? |

Yup, you can also keep Greening and Wiercoch. In my opinion, both teams could be drafting fairly highly in that draft. |

WHAT!!!!
Dion is a good player but no way if I'm Ottawa would I trade my 1st in 2015 for him.
A D man would have to go the other way that's for sure though. I'd say Gryba or Cowen are the two likely candidates. And the pick would be a 2nd at best. I can't see TO ever touching Greening... |

Leafs would be dumb to pass on that.
So logically Nonis turns it down, and Dubas accepts
but no retained salary |

me neither. plus, i doubt this helps foster any "home town discounts" subban may take in the future to play in mtl, once he is a ufa. |

Imagine... the world would rumble... Do you think if something like that tried to happen the NHL would step in and prevent it like when the NBA blocked Paul from the Lakers? |

Absolutely. Why would the NHL want a decent Canadian team screwing things up for them? It's bad for the league and for money. |

good responses, looking them over.
it seems Greening, Weircioch, and a 1st most leaf fans are good with. interesting....

Ok which team do you think has a better group than the Sens (Under 25). In terms of potential I don't see any, but let's see; quick might not be 100% accuarte:
Kyle Turris (1st line center) Mika Zibanejad (2nd line center) Mark Stone (2nd line winger; 3rd if falls) Alex Chaisson (same as Stone) Curtis Lazar (top line winger; captain potential) Matt Puempel (2nd line G winger; 1st line potential) Alex Guptill (potential, unlikely, 2nd line G winger; 3rd line then) Mike Hoffman (Top 9 two way fast center/winger)
Erik Karlsson (franchise Dman) Jared Cowen (Top 4 shutdown with #2 potential) Patrick Weircioch (Top 4 PMD) Cody Ceci (2nd Dman; PPQB) Andreas Englund (Top 4 mobile stay at home)
Robin Lehner (#1 goalie) |

Well without researching too too much. Colorado off the top of my head. Probably Tampa and at a push (for different reasons) Buffalo.
It's a typical thing (not picking our Sens fans) for fans to look at the age of players and think, sweet we are young. We will be awesome in a few years. Every single player to have ever played in the NHal were young once.
Greening didn't just suddenly get poop. He was always poop. Clarkson isn't suddenly poop. Rene Borwue, Sam Gagner, Jacob Markstrom etc. etc. aren't suddenly poop.
Young players are always shiney. For the most part, it doesn't make them any more useful than older guys at the NHL level. All it is, it's a reason for hope among fan bases when they are tired of the poopty players currently on their roster (in general, top 3 picks of the draft omitting).
You listed guys like Cowen, Wiercoch and Lerhner. For me, Cowen looks pretty poop and PW looks OK as a 5th/6th dman.Lerhner, I'm not impressed with, but I trust you guy's opinion more than mine on him cos I probably only saw the rough times.
Guys like Stone, Lazar, Hoffman, Puempel are being inserted in the lineup. Honestly, every organization has guys like this. They have done nothing at the NHL level.
I'm not having a go ay Sens fans, honestly, Leafs fans are the same.
We already have fans proclaiming Finn, Percy, Verhague, Nylander, Loov, Bibeau, Jonnson and Connor Brown are finally going to lead us to the promised land. Do you know why? It's because they are a shiny new toy we can pin our hopes to to end our torture.
And, if you haven't heard of those guys, don't worry. Every single team have them. In Ottawa they do by Lazar, Stone, Hoffman, Puempel and the dman you drafted this year.
In other organizations they go by other names
P.s. this is on a phone so sorry about the spelling errors and stuff |

Yes. I named those teams in the last post.
But pleeeease.... so you're saying.
RNH, Hall, Eberle, Yakupov, Draisaitl, Schultz, Marincin+
OVER
Turris, Zibanejad, Lazar, Karlsson, Lehner, Cowen, Puempel, Weircioch+
I'd say Ottawa has better depth and diversity of potential; IF you take EDM, that's probably one of the only teams.
Barkov, Huberdeau, Bjugstad, Ekblad, Kulikov, Gudbranson, Matheson+
Great group but no thanks. Same goes for Buffalo |
