Yes he is good. We want him here long term but he hasn't earned 4 mil a year yet. He's definitely going to be worth that sooner than later but it's tough considering were low on cap space. Personally I don't think it's worth mentioning over and over that alphie still hasn't signed. I don't think he will. We aren't equipped to win a cup this year so why would he? |

sign him long term, hes a legit 2nd pairing Dman, they don't grow on trees to develop and cost an arm and a leg if you plan on replacing them in Free Agency. Lock him up. |

Last I heard, Alfie had said Wings or hang em up
Lock DD up long term. It may look like an overpayment at first, but could be a steal down the road. |

It's just not the money that bothers me with Quincey (although it does make DeKeyser worth that much now) but also the roster spot. Kronwall and Ericsson are locked up for a good while, DeKeyser will likely be also, Smith will likely be kept and re-signed after this season. Kindl unless traded will still be there for a couple more years. Only Quincey and Lashoff have contracts ending in 2 years when Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, Marchenko and Jensen all run out of waiver options at the same time.
Sure injuries will give some of these guys some games before they run out of options but the Wings will need to know who to keep and who to let go before they get to that point since they won't be able to keep all of them. Having an open spot now could give these guys more playing time to show what they can do if they rotated them during the season. It could also boost their value for a trade when it comes time to let some go. |

How about OEL or Yandle? - Bones
OEL isn't going anywhere. Yandle does pique my interest. Does Nyquist + Kindl make it happen? |

100% agree. He is still young so he could turn into a 1-2 over time. It's a risk, but yes, you lock this guy up or he will command even more in a year or two. |

He compares quite well to Gardiner actually, in a number of ways. I'd say a similar deal, if possible, would benefit both player and team. (especially team) |

I say bridge deal.
I know Detroit fans are high on DeKeyser generally but I guess I'm just not convinced yet he's THAT good. He does play one of the tougher roles on the Red Wings blueline, and has shown he can log a ton of minutes against tough opposition without looking out of place. But he doesn't really drive much offense (career totals so far: 4 goals, 7 primary assists), he doesn't really drive possession (though he doesn't really drag it down much either), and his unusually high on-ice save percentage suggests that probably he's gotten a bit lucky in his own end thus far -- we've just been less likely to notice his mistakes because so far they haven't found the back of his own net as often as Quincey's have.
I don't think he's a bad defenseman by any stretch -- probably around the NHL average, so a decent No. 3-4 guy -- but with so few NHL games played I'm not really sure I'd be comfortable with going all-in on a long-term deal, especially with all the potential talent still in the pipeline.
I think a two-year deal would be ideal for the Red Wings. For one, it gives them two more years to clearly establish DeKeyser's value as an NHL player. For two, it gives them two more years to bring in their kids, see how they stack up, and make informed decisions about who to lock up for the long term and who to try to flip for other assets. And for three, DeKeyser would still be an RFA when the deal expired. |
