Any one of those players would have benefited this team.
I am waiting for Hextall to make some kind of move to improve the team that walked off the ice game 7 in NY
It didn't have to be a blockbuster, just a deal that would add speed or 4th line depth.
The Umberger deal didn't cut it for me - 3flyerkids
Agreed. They're pretty much the same team. Of course they're expecting more from the kids, like Couturier & Schenn, but they pretty much theaded water |

Yeah Rinaldo is the problem. Shut up people! You all always cry about penalties he's taken but NEVER give him credit for the penalties he draws. He's one of the few guy son the flyers willing to throw is body around because the others don't! I'm so tired of whining flyer fans , WHINING about Rinaldo, GET OVER IT - twpguy

I'd rather get rid of both and have Hall as the 13th guy, but that's just me.
I get the idea of an enforcer, but in practice, I'm not sure Rosehill fighting another goon protects or creates space for the skill guys. - Jsaquella

Yeah, if they don't have Rosehill I'd rather sign a veteran depth guy, such as Handzus or Colin Fraser. - Jsaquella

Hold onto Rinaldo for now. Hope he draws as many penalties as he takes. Come the trade deadline some team will be looking to get more psychical so move him then. Sometimes the one-trick ponies get an actual decent return at that time of year. |

I'll give him credit when he draws more than he takes. Last year he took 14 more penalties than he drew. He also has no skill at handling, passing or shooting the puck. Turns out that's kind of a big problem for a hockey player in 2014. |

Adam Hall knew his role and performed it rather well. Going to be missed for sure.
Now not that I am opposed to this, but it's safe to assume Vinny is staying for good? G, Vinny, Coots, and Laughton are now the team's only viable Centers.
I think the 4th line will be any mix of Raffl, Rosehill, Laughton, Akeson, and PEM. Raffl you can at least move up and down the lineup. Rinaldo's time has come and gone. I understand the argument for giving him a chance on the PK, but i can see too many times with him out there that a 5 on 4 will quickly turn into a 5 on 3. He's just a little too reckless for my liking.
If they wanted nothing left to do with Downie, I can't see why the same can't be said for Zac. |

There was a stretch during the regular season when Rinaldo was out of the line up. IIRC the team noticeably sagged during that stretch. He absolutely brings an energy to the team that I think is valuable. There were still too many games where he goes over the line and hurts the team. If he can walk the line of being aggressive with clean hits, and learn to play a bit better defensively and with the puck he would become a positive asset. He is not really that far away from this goal. I like that he is getting another shot this year (so far it seems like he is). |

3 reasons:
1. Rinaldo is still under contract, Downie's terminated
2. Rinaldo is cheaper
3. Downie gave the team nothing outside of a 9-11 game stretch. At least Rinaldo hit people cleanly from time to time as opposed to aimlessly drifting around. |

Tell me one other thing he brings to the team then.
If the team is relying on a guy like Rinaldo to pump up their energy then there are bigger problems at hand.
You need 4 lines in this league. I'm not singling out Rinaldo. It's an entire mindset that needs to change. |

With Hall gone they are going to need another forward on the PK. For now, it's G, Read and Couturier . . . that's it. Umberger has done it, so I'm sure he's going to get a shot but if one of those guys goes down . . .
It's a good opportunity for Rinaldo. I have no problem giving young players a shot at stepping up. - fls13
Raffl is probably going to be one of the main PKers also.

To some degree it is.... Guys like carcillo, burish, and bollig all have their names on a Stanley Cup. |

Harder to say that after watching Moore/Boyle/Dorsett own every Flyers line they went up against in that series...
And our 4th be less than useless... completely detrimental.

If he could become decent, it would open up the opportunity of moving Couts or Read off the PK and giving them more offensive opportunities.
I was one who advocated giving Rinaldo a chance to kill penalties last season after Talbot was traded. He proved to be decent at denying entires by using his speed and aggressiveness.
I felt his aggressiveness got him into trouble once the other team was set up. He, often, skated out of position trying to make a play that simply wasn't there.
The only way he'll get better at those things are through opportunity. It's just hard to allow him to improve in that area when the team is fighting for a playoff spot and so reliant on special teams.
My best advice is to use him A LOT during the preseason on the PK and see if he makes strides. I don't believe Couts and Read really need to play much on the PK in the preseason. The team is coming back with the same D and goalies from a year ago. Frankly, I don't want to see Couts out there blocking shots in the preseason anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing him used on the PK if the Flyers are ahead by 2 or more or behind by 2 or more. - PhillySportsGuy
Agree w/ just about everything you said.
(although, in a perfect world, he's in Allentown and Alderson is the guy getting the PK audition)

Flyers need a 4th line that can do more then just take a few shifts a period. They need a 4th line that can check and play well defensively, so it can be used in more situations such as late in games with a lead. Rinaldo is a player with physical skills, but he needs to become a smarter player. Not just in terms of discipline, but also so he can be relied on more. If he's not going to grow as a player moving forward, then maybe the Flyers should move on. |

I personally don't have a problem with Rinaldo.
He had 1 solid year and 1 iffy year , that is called being a young player.
If he has another bad year this season that I get cutting ties with him but as of right now he brings something to this team that other players dont. Yes Simmonds and Schenn can hit , fight if they have to , stir the pot physically but tbh I would rather they focus on producing. |
