Could this quickly spiral into a instance of "Too many Chiefs, & not enough Indians"?
Certainly it's possible, sometimes "less" is more.
I think your point about "getting the right people, is better than getting more people" is not only valid, but golden.
You can have a dozen Penn State, "yes"-man, cronies up there in T-Pegs inner circle... But combined, they still don't have the professional hockey acumen of one single Pat LaFontaine.
Let's just hope that we don't start emulating the those old NYR models. We've all seen by now that throwing money at rosters doesn't nessicarily fix them. - SuperCat
am of the opinion that murray's fully in charge and that he has the backing of Pegula...
from what I gather, as of right now jakubowski will be focused upon the numbers aspect of the hockey dept. while devine is focused upon the scouting/player development areas... |

We have one of it not the lowest payroll in the league do we not? I'm pretty sure he learned throwing money around wasn't the answer after 2011 |

How has the organization suffered since LaFontaine left? Serious question. - Der Kaiser
They haven't. Lafontaine has lasted very little time at 2 other jobs.

Well obviously it was a PR nightmare for fans & former players... Not to mention Terry Pegula, has been painted as Jerry Jones-esque egomaniac/power monger, at times since. There was a leauge-wide respectability & 1st class image that LaFontaine brought to the table, and that was clearly tarnished from amarketing standpoint.
But perhaps what's most important... The "brains" behind the entire post-Darcy was excommunicated. I assume most fans think TM was a good hire... Well who do you think chose him?!! It was LaFontaine!
If Patty hadn't been there, there wouldn't have been such an exhaustive GM search... Because T-Pegs & his goons wouldn't even know where to begin. You would have had some Pitts re-tread who Pegula or Black had some "connection".

If it is true that he wanted to extend Vanek and Miller we should be grateful that he isn't running the show anymore. |

Semantics. We have a low payroll because theaters that we tried to retain wouldn't sign here (Vanek, Miller, Pommer)...
That wasn't by some grand fiscally responsible design. This situation was dictated to management by star players who deemed this organization unworthy. |

Paragraph #1. Complete non-sense.
Everything else, who cares? Murray is here, Pat isn't. |

"Star" players who went on to accomplish nothing, some of which embarrassed themselves and got shorter deals and a lesser term than expected. We got paid handsomely to move all of them. Moving on. |

What are you talking about? Rumor is Lafontaine wanted Miller here and the rest of the management did not.
Lafontaine is not a GM, yet he tried to act like one and took his ball and went home when someone told him to remember what his role was. It wasn't the first time either
Also, Pominville was traded and there were never talks of him staying. |

And the players left here in their wake accomplished even less, bravo!
A pretty small-minded opinion IMO, but never the less, your entitled to it.
Only one team can win the Cup each yr. Ovechkin hasn't ever won anything in the playoffs... And I guess you'd never want him on this roster because of it? |

Sow what we should have kept Vanek, Miller, Ott and Moulson, so what we can try to come in 29th place instead of build for the future? Pretty moronic opinion IMO, but you're entitled to it.

If you're saying that we had a chance to resign Pommer, then why was he traded two years ago? We all knew that Miller wasn't going to resign here. We all knew Vanek wouldn't resign here as well.
These players did not want to be here for a rebuild. It was very apparent. |

Ah, good point. I had it in my head that it was both of them. But I did hear that he wanted to try to salvage the season and that would start with signing Miller. |

Anyone who doesn't think that this machine would be running better if Patty was still on board, is just hanging on too tight to their rosé colored glasses. - SuperCat
Honest question: What makes you think Patty would have done a better job? |

FYI, I know for a fact that 75% of your assumptions in this post are BS.
Sure LaFontaine wanted to keep Miller around (for leadership & to throw a bone to the fans) but so did TM!!!
It was Miller's choice to leave! Ryan Told TM he wanted to move on to a contender before he got too old, & TM's hands were tied.
And for the record, it should be noted that Miller played well here last yr.
It wasn't till STL tried changing his style, that he struggled. They wanted him to play deeper into the net. Quite frankly, they gambled & lost. |

What truth? You realize you made two points that argue against eachother right?
You hope we don't go the NYR way, which according to you, the "cronies" were attempting to do, yet you are criticizing people for not wanting to go out and get the Ovechkins of the world who haven't won anything yet...... I'm confused |
