None of these are my real argument. My original point is that more coaches doesnt always equate to better coaches (too many chief & not
What you have there are statements without context of the coho, which is why you don't see the point.
Someone argued that were not gonna throw $$$ at our problems because we currently haves low payroll...
Yet our payroll situation was merely dictated to our management by our franchise players.
This doesn't mean that T-Pegs won't try to throw money at problems to make them go away (as seen with Leino, Ehrhoff, & an attempting to make Vanek the highest paid player in the NHL ). - SuperCat
1 player turned down a deal. There was no evidence that a contract was available to Miller or Pominville, in fact neither Pegula or Regeir mentioned anything specific in reference to Vanek.
Also, Ehrhoff was bought out solely because of money and a possible cap penalty. If the "cronies" didn't care about throwing money around and just wanted any good player here, Hoff would be still here |

Again, you need to read the entire thread to understand the context.
Somebody claimed Vanek & Miller are useless because they didnt win anything...
My reply was, only one team "Wins" it all. And just because a guy's team doesn't win The Cup, doesn't mean he's useless.
Who wouldn't want OV here? His talent is obvious. But some Sabre fans would apparently classify his skillset as useless, because his never won. Flawed logic, IMO. - SuperCat
That's 75% an assumption. |

I feel like I gathered your points actually. There really isn't a point at throwing money right now when our team is retooling and focusing on our younger players. They brought in players (at a premium) that can facilitate this process. There isn't a "star" player we can bring here right now, so where are we throwing money?
We are building a hockey department. This post is about how we have vastly increased the number of scouts, have two AGMs that are focusing on two different aspects of the team.
Coaches is probably the wrong word there (your original point was too many chiefs not coaches). We only have one Head Coach, three assistants and a goalie coach. So 4 coaches seems about right. It seems like the chain of command is also positive.
Murray on top. Patrick helping him and then those below having a direct report. It's a business structure. Not sure where the too many chiefs/coaches/bananas comes in. |

Who used the word "useless"? I think you need to read the thread. You're constantly jumping to conclusions and putting words and ideas in peoples mouths that they never said. |

"Star" players who went on to accomplish nothing, some of which embarrassed themselves and got shorter deals and a lesser term than expected. We got paid handsomely to move all of them. Moving on. - Buffalo-Sabres
Is this not useless. Again, semantics.
You try to spin your argument to camouflage the fact that you just can't grasp the big picture.
Or maybe you just don't want to grab it because you can't admit that your wrong?

I've never claimed Miller is useless. I would still like him here, but respect that he wants to win. Unfortuntately, he went to another rebuilding team IMO. His choice. He can do whatever he wants. Buffalo wasn't in his plans and that's fine.
If we are making outlandish points. Do we throw the remaining cap room we have at Marty Broudeur? I don't think that is a wise decision, nor do I think this team will do that again.
Pegula gave financial freedom to Darcy and since Darcy could not land the big fish, he threw a ton of money at a guy that didn't deserve it. I don't think the money that Leino and the Hoff signed are on Pegula. He seems to give full control to the guys in charge. Darcy made those mistakes, IMO, not Pegula. He trusted the person that is in charge of that area. That was his mistake. Trusting Darcy. |

What is the big picture?
You seem to have grasped this idea.
I have the picture that we have a knowledgable GM that is rebuilding this team in the best possible way; remove the old core and start fresh. He is keeping players he finds beneficial for our rebuild (either in play or trade value) and is drafting the players he wants.
Where does our big picture differ? |

So what would you have them do differently? Keeping Vanek would have required a deal about the size of his last one, and Miller would have wanted similar to his last one as well in my opinion. Both of them took pay cuts for different reasons (Vanek to play in Minnesota and Miller because of a saturated goalie market and a bad performance). I don't think keeping them would have helped as much as cutting the ties and getting the return that we got.
And of note, on the Ovechkin topic, some players are winners and some are just good players. It's been OV's detriment his entire playing career. Crosby beat him in the WJC. Crosby has won 2 cups first. Crosby has won in the Olympics twice. Ovechkin is a very good player and one of my all time favorites but his biggest issue is that is he a player that makes you win when the chips are down. So yes, while I of course would want a player of Ovechkin's caliber on my team there is something to say about the fact that he hasn't won anything. |
