It's the new math, where you multiply everything by 2.6 - jmatchett383
no you subtract everything by -2.5 |

His max bonus was $1.5m, and they were for games played so he won't get any of them now. Not sure where you got $4m from.

Sorry working on a paper at same time here. Thanks for the clarification.
I am soundly against Penner BTW. He isn't gritty (which we need more of), he eats grittle! |

They're definitely a bubble team. The scary thing is that the rest of the division got better (in general) this offseason and the Flyers have, at best, maintained. - jmatchett383
Basically the same team
Umberger in Hartnell out
Del Zotto in Timonen out
They may have taken a slight step back. Who knows at this point. The defense core could be painfully bad in their own end. |

Derian Hatcher is better than Coburn. The space of that void cannot be calculated, as Hatcher played in a completely different era when he was in his prime, before his knees disintegrated. If Coburn played in an era where you could hook/hold/trip/punch your way to the puck, he would be much more effective. How much more is debatable. SO no, he isn't/wouldn't be as good as Hatcher in his prime, but they style they played and the rules they played within are fairly night and day. - jmatchett383
I can agree with this. I don't think the margin that wide a gap. I never said Coburn was better (not saying you said I did) but they did in fact play in different times, Hatcher had a clear cut All-Star cast of support and probably saw PP time. I think most of us know Coburn can play the PP and is capable of offensive numbers but we found upgrades in that area. |

FWIW
I would go with the following D pairs at even strength
Coburn-Streit
AMac-Schenn
Grossmann-MDZ
on the Pk and when protecting a lead in the last 10 minutes of a game:
Grossmann-Coburn
AMac-Schenn
and, when trailing late in a game:
Coburn-Streit
MDZ-Schenn or AMac
thoughts? |

I think if the forwards fully buy into Berube's system, the D will be ok, not great, but ok. However, if the forwards don't buy in and leave big gaps, it will get very ugly, very quickly.

Agreed. Outside of Couturier, Raffl, Read, and Umberger (if healthy) not many forwards who are good in their own on this team. |

I hate to be a debbie downer but I disagree. To me, that is a definite step back. Will they mss the POs because of it? Not sure, if you take away the terrible start from last year we were not a bubble team and a lot of things happen over an 82 game season. Plus I'm thinking a trade is still coming to upgrade the D at somepoint during the season if/when Kimmo is placed on LTIR and it becomes painfully obvious that they can't continue with current personel. Call me crazy, but the fact that folks are actually argueing over who has a worse D (Oilers or Flyers) is a reality check. I just hope the trade for an upgrade, if it occurs, doesn't gut the team of its promising young forwards. |

All fair points. A case can be made for this sentiment. |

Question of the day
Is there any team that would be in bigger trouble than the flyers if their best player goes down? My answer is no. I believe the flyers rely on giroux more than any team relies on any single player
My next best guess is tavares and the isle |

Giroux is the only elite player on the Flyers. Majority of the contenders have a few elite players on their roster. Voracek isn't quite elite yet, but he may be trending in that direction. |

I'd say Canucks and the Sedins, Senators and Karlsson, Hurricanes and Staal |

True, they will need for ALL 12 to commit to playing 200 feet if they are to be successful this season. |

I can merely and wish Timmonen a swift recovery.
It saddens me to know I may have already watched his last game.
Everyone who knows me knows I adore the Defenseman. So I'll withold judgement on MDZ till he gets his skates under him and I see him play a few games. Berube must have ulcers at this point. |

Well it would be interesting to see how the Rangers would do if they lost Hank for an entire season, certainly Tavares would be a huge, crippling loss for the Isles and I think Montreal would be in big trouble if they lost Price for the whole season. |

Well, that is two players for the Canucks. Ottawa lost Karlsson and still won. Hurricanes would be bad regardless.
Personally I would say Taveres, Weber, Lundqvist.

When he gets a load of this D core in their own end, he better get a supply of Depends. |
