Well, at least a team with a huge prospect pool claimed him |

That's true. They have the money to pay for his contract too. I just don't see Amaro, as dumb as he is, budging from a king's ransom. Maybe a deal gets worked out in the offseason. |

No doubt about it. I think like 7 of their top 10 prospects are in Baseball America's top 50. |

They just brought up the guy Baez. They have Russell and Bryant who are both top10 prospects in baseball. Both are shortstops too |

Yeah, I think Bryant is third int the most recent list. I'd kill to have him but I doubt the Cubs give him up. Think Castro may be available with Baez and Russell not too far away? |

Castro is definitely available. Not sure I want him though. He'd need to reach the phillies on waivers in order for a deal to occur now. Phillies are bad but they aren't the worst team in baseball. Another team may claim him before the Phillies |

(frank)ing baseball's trade deadlines confuse me. - Nucker101
The deadline that passed last week was the non waiver deadline. So trades before that could happen like they do in hockey- call up the GM, say I want this guy, and sort a trade out.
However, teams can trade after this deadline by explicitly using waivers. A player is put on waivers to test the waters. Using Hamels as an example, he was placed on waivers to see if anyone would claim him. The claiming process to my understanding is the same as hockey. The Cubs claimed him. The Phils have a choice now- they can pull him off waivers like nothing ever happened (like a just kidding type thing), or they have I think 24 or 48 hours to pull a trade with the team that claimed him.
If no one claims him, then he can be DFA'd etc etc, but most times nothing happens and life goes on, since the bigger names are the ones that go on waivers at this point. i.e. the Phils aren't going to be DFAing Hamels.
It's dumb, but the way it works.
After this deadline passes, which is eventually (don't know the date) trades of any kind can't be made to my knowledge. |

Yep, waivers definitely complicate things. Plus, the Cubs are on Hamels' no trade list. Hopefully something gets done in the winter. Side note: the Phillies starter for tonight has yet to be announced since Fausto was traded. |

I understand that people might take offense toward increasingly esoteric descriptions of the game, but the numbers right now are about as harmless/uncomplicated/conventional as anything in the old box score.
There are certainly interpretations of the numbers that people could justifiably find unsettling, but the numbers themselves are nothing more than simple shots and numerical descriptions of how Coach X prefers to use Player X.
Save the righteous indignation for when they start coming out w/ the real crazy poop. |

Trades can still be made in September but those players acquired are not playoff eligible because they weren't on the 40 man roster September 1st

and here's the Haller OT goal:
listen at 3:55. i've never heard dorney yell like that before. i'm
in watching a lot of these clips from the 95 and 97 series, i'm amazed at how much offense was contributed by haller, dykhuis, yushkevich etc....
and so many oddman rushes.

If Giroux and Mason go down for extended periods of time, we're gonna learn the Central Scouting rankings around here real fast. - johndewar
I think the team is good enough to play infront of Emery for an extended period of time. In fact they already have. The key to this team's success is Giroux. Giroux is irreplaceable to this team. |

Prove me wrong. - jmatchett383
Given:
Baseball = World Series
Football = Super Bowl
Eagles = Football
Phillies = Baseball
Therefore:
Baseball = World Series = Phillies
Football = Super Bowl = Eagles
Conclusion:
It can be inferred the Eagles and the World Series are unrelated, and thus the Eagles cannot win the World Series.
