Given:
Baseball = World Series
Football = Super Bowl
Eagles = Football
Phillies = Baseball
Therefore:
Baseball = World Series = Phillies
Football = Super Bowl = Eagles
Conclusion:
It can be inferred the Eagles and the World Series are unrelated, and thus the Eagles cannot win the World Series.

Who's to say they won't switch to baseball? Or that the Super Bowl/Lombardi Trophy won't be renamed "The World Series?"

So, as I understand it, any team can put in a waiver claim of anyone...so theoretically, the Phillies could put in a claim for Mike Trout.
But as long as the team that has the player says, "No," it amounts to nothing?

Not exactly. The player's team places him on waivers. Then, with the waiver order in effect, teams have X hours to place a claim. Whoever claims him highest in the order gets negotiating rights with the team to trade for that player.
At that point, the team that put the player on waivers in the first place can litrilly say "just kidding" and life goes on like nothing happened. Or, they can organize a trade.
So to go back to your example, the Phillies only have a chance at claiming/trading for Trout if the Angels place him on waivers. But even then, he would be claimed by a higher team in the waiver order, ya know? |

The legalities of such a change would require a lengthy process by which shut up that's dumb. |

It's like a testing the waters type thing. They put him out there to see who is interested.
Since the Cubs claimed him, they can trade him to the Cubs, or they can not do anything.
If no one claimed him, then Amaro knows interest is low, etc etc |

Like on Papelbon.
Guys at this point of season need to clear waivers to be traded, too. So it allows a guy to be dealt in case of injury later on. Like say the Yankess have a run of 'pen injuries and and decide to take on Paps. Since he cleared waivers, the Phils can deal him. |

Not that I'm aware...4th liner type, grinder, physical
EDIT
http://www.habseyesonthep...e-profile-habs/in/5706794
White was relegated to a fourth line role, meaning he started 46.8% of his shifts in the defensive zone. No other member of the 2013-14 Canadiens faced more defensive zone starts. Despite this tough assignment, White managed to put up a reasonable offensive production, to the tune of two goals and four assists. Not exactly earth shattering numbers, however considering his deployment and offensive expectations going into the season White's production could be seen as decent.
Unfortunately for White, general manager Marc Bergevin did not tender him a qualifying offer, deciding instead to rely on a gluttony of available bottom-six players that possess a higher upside. His greatest assets, hustle and relentless effort, were not enough to convince Bergevin to extend the feisty forward, and I can't say I disagree with the decison. White possesses little to no offensive upside, a history of discipline issues, and an all-around lack of skill.
White did perform admirably on the penalty kill, however with the addition of Manny Malhotra, and the always impressive short-handed play of Lars Eller and Tomas Plekanec, the Habs could definitely afford to let him walk. |
