I think White's in direct competition w/ Rinaldo for job/role, more than anybody. I'm praying he knocks him out... White actually has a modicum of talent... Zac is beer league.

It sounds like they both lack skill. The difference to me is it seems like White has been successful on a PK and Rinaldo hasnt, despite having opportunities.

He's probably a guy who can play there while Laughton gets AHL time. It's not a big deal.

For me, this only furthers what I already believed. Center within the top nine. A player will have to get hurt or be traded for him to play. Ryan White played 52 games last season and I'm seeing no minor league time.

How much are you not looking forward to this season if they ride it out as is and none of the kids crack the lineup? I mean putting away angst over whether they're ready wouldn't it be more fun if a couple of them were?

I am not looking forward to watching what's on paper right now.

I dont see the need for a full rebuild. We have a lot of young, promising dmen spread pretty evenly between the NHL, AHL, and juniors. We have a lot of really good young forwards in the NHL, with a few promising prospects coming up. We have a promising, if not already really good young starting goalie with a great complimenting goalie as backup, and a pretty good prospect. And we're still a playoff team that tends to play better down the stretch and in tough situations. I dont see anything that signals that we need a rebuild.

Oh I totally agree. I don't think it's a complete rebuild. I think there's a lot of nice pieces that will be set in about three years. That's where I think this exchange for Hartnell and Umberger comes in to play

Yeah, less PIMs, but quicker space, too. Harts had too long of a contract. He's still better than Umberger, but not by a large margin.

It seems right in line with his philosphy, to me. Sign a veteran with some speed and some two-way ability so not to rush the prospects. It screams Hextall.

I said sooner than later.

it's only because he ousted a 5 year deal (which was likely gonna be bad news in about 2-3 years if not sooner) in exchange for a 3 year deal that will come off the books.

A gritty, grinding forward with a decent scoring touch. Plays a tough, feisty game. Doesn't skate very well.

Assets: Is a gritty, feisty energy forward who plays with an edge to his game. Will drop the gloves and be a constant thorn in opponents' sides. Was a scorer at lower levels.

Flaws: Isn't a great skater, which holds him back a little. Must prove capable of avoiding serious injury while playing his feisty brand of hockey at the highest level.

Career Potential: Rambunctious energy depth forward.

Ya, people fight over who is better. In the end, Hartnell was probably the more valuable player, but Umberger is probably the better fit for the system.

We're midway through our second rebuild already this century. Only thing that needs rebuilt right now is our so so defense.

From that excerpt posted earlier, it sounds like he's the kind of player that survives on hustle and hard work. So I'd imagine he's at least average.

I havent seen Umberger's skating, but the way Hextall was citing Umberger's speed as a reason for acquiring him, you would think he still has good speed.
