I'm not a fan of tanking but it's pretty clear the elite teams are built by sucking for years and drafting top 5 year after year. Phillies last top pick was jvr and I believe he was the highest selection in Philly history. Pitt Chicago la and even Edmonton though not nearly as good have all been terrible and now look at their rosters. - 28Girouxsalem28
I have no problems tanking in the right draft. This seems to be one of those drafts |

I think Pronger was the 'dirtier' player... Stevens was really good at hurting guys.
I'd take either one on my team... for my own players' safety. - Tomahawk
They were both dirty as hell. I felt Pronger did things out of retaliation and got caught up in the moment. I felt Stevens searched out opportunities to concuss people. |

I found the whole exercise annoying. As if AMac was the only guy on the ice. I felt the writer was trying to find a reason for each goal to be the result of something MacDonald did. - MBFlyerfan
I thought Goal 4 was bad on his part. The others? Man, I saw two egregious defensive plays by Baby Schenn, and the forward trio of Hall/Rinaldo/Rosehill out for another one -- Chris Effing Pronger's getting scored on when you're asking Rinaldo and Rosehill to sort out coverage on rebounds that make their way to the slot.
From those goals, from what I saw, I'll take that from MacDonald.

The top end players in this draft are the future of the league. They are the giroux a crosbys Malkin toews Ovies of the future. I honestly believe that. Not to mention some of the d prospects also in the draft. I think hagg moron ghost and sanhiem are the future d core so why not get the next g in 2015? What if mcdavid really turns out better offensively then Crosby? What if eichel turns out to be better than g. But we miss again because Philly fans are so in love with playoffs and early exits? I just think that if there was ever a year to tank this is it. |

You're being too objective.
I'll break it down like this:
1.) Pronger might have done players dirty, but he was OUR guy doing players dirty.
2.) Scott Stevens intentionally injured one of the best players in Flyers history.
In conclusion, (frank) Scott Stevens. |

Exactly. This is the year to tank if they were going to. These are really generational talents getting drafted and Philly needs to be a team drafting one of them early in the draft not at num 20 like usual. Philly always gets a good player at 20 or so but we need to be in top 5 to get that elite future player |

The Flyers are never going to tank. If we miss the playoffs then I hope we get as high a pick as possible, but the team will never do what Buffalo are doing. We can accept that, or become Sabres fans. |

A couple of injuries to the right people, and we'll all be looking at YouTube clips of Canadian teenage hockey players we all barely know anything about by February. |

Timonen was a strong first step in that direction. |

I didn't buy a season ticket plan to watch them tank.
Neither did 14,000 other people, or however many.
We're too good of a team to tank. How will the Flyers tank this season? Tell me. How? |

I don't know about those specific player comparisons, but I really hope that BSchenn turns into a productive, consistent Top 6 forward. |

If Giroux and Mason go down for extended periods of time, we're gonna learn the Central Scouting rankings around here real fast. |

They haven't exactly tried too hard to make any leaps forward this summer, either... not sure that's coincidence, considering how Hexy is all about the long-view. |

I'll never accept tanking. Never. I'm sorry, if that makes me the problem, if me wanting to make the playoffs every year is one factor in the Flyers not winning a Cup, since they never are in line to get the Doughtys and Toews of the world.
Again, I'm sorry. But I'm on board with Ed Snider 100 damn percent. Not making the playoffs is unacceptable. It is. It happens. But you should never plan for it to happen, or want for it to happen, and you should try like hell to not let it happen. |

The Flyers didn't tank in "The Season that Shall Not Be Named", but they were terrible.
I had season tickets during that year and I don't think I was excited about going to games until they got Marty Biron and Scott Upshall in those trades.
That was a rough season to go down to the WFC. |

It would be tough to be compared to Pitt for tanking but it's not like we are legit contenders. We are middle of the pack at best and not a contender with the d core as is. Not even close. Like I said we are pretty much in idle until our d prospects arrive and become legit in the league which is a few years after they enter the league. So for as much as 5 years we could just be fringe playoff competitors. |

Yeah, but c'mon, it was like he was out for a goal against every time. He seemed to be the common denominator. Not sure how anyone could be high on him after that performance. |
