Penner is a guy that can slide up and down a lineup and fit in just about anywhere. Really surprised he hasn't found a job yet.

I'm not big on those two stats as such, but I think there are stats that could be developed that I wouldn't mind taking a look at. The thing is they might be very arbitrary in terms of what does and doesn't fit the criterion.

I'm sure you're right. They know what they want to look at and more importantly what their own criterion is. Look at a stat like hits as they're publicly calculated . . . . . very subjective.

Exactly. The issue with Corsi and Fenwick is lot of false data, making it unreliable. NHL teams have the video resources to lower that percentage of false data, and get a far more accurate number, for individual players. Team wise it's not an issue.

Those two shouldn't be too far off. Let's face it, even an old school stat like shots on goal can be a little off. Was that puck going wide when the goalie gloved it down? I know what I would like to see would be based on rating decision making with the puck and that would be very subjective. I know giveaways get tracked but then I look at the box score and think, well that guy gave the puck away more than once in my book at least. Something I'd like to see tracked with goalies, short side and 5-hole goals, would be pretty cut and dried.
