It's like more or less any other player in another organization who doesn't get the love outsiders think they deserve. When you're in another city and look at strictly numbers, you scratch your head. When you watch him day in and day out, you get to see a bigger picture.
I'll preface this by saying BSchenn has grown considerably since he got here and hopefully will continue to do so. That said, he has his shortcomings that are, say, concerning to some.
As a center, he's not a great passer, below average on faceoffs, and he doesn't necessarily make his wingers better, is an average skater, has average shot scoring most of his goals in and around the crease area. He's not terrific defensively and tends to be invisible for long stretches of time. He plays a power forward game in a less that power forward's body.
Again, he's taken great strides to become a more well rounded player but still has a way to go. - 77rams
You know a lot of what you state here is why I think Schenn belongs on the Wing, versus at the Center position. |

I have always liked him. I think Hextall is probably high on him as well. Guys like Schenn spread through your line up are what helped LA win a Stanley Cup. Goal scorers are great and they earn the big dollars. But you need guys who can also take care of their own end. - spatso
Brayden Schenn is not that kind of player right now. He is below average defensively. Not that he's the only one on the team who is among forwards. |

I also believe Schenn10 will ultimately be a winger. |

I was just curious of how poeple value them. I think it would be wise for the Flyers to try and Bogosian now. Just say he were to have a very solid year this year then I think his price goes up and makes it even harder to get. I think he could be taht future number 1 we have been wanting. If you can get him and pair him with say Coburn you got a solid top pair. |

The only thing I like so far is that he's holding off on the Lecavalier trade until someone will take him without leaving a stain on our cap. At least I believe that's what he's doing. Everything else is pretty meh. - mayorofangrytown

I like what he has done so far. He has made the farm team competitive so that our prospects are playing meaningful games. I like the Ryan White and Del Zotto signings. At least they are low risk deals and both players are younger. Not like signing a hall gill or adam hall. And I can understand the Umberger/Hartnell deal. |

I'd consider it for either player. I'd prefer Read though. I seriously caution trading Schenn... reminds me a bit of the JVR situation (who schenn's stats and injury history are similar to). I'd hate to see us give up another forward ready to break out for a Dman with 'potential'. been there, done that once. It was Homer's only regretable trade imo. |

This is actually a tough question for me because I like both Read and Schenn a lot. Read is clearly the more balanced player right now but Read is 28. It won't be long until he's in his early 30's and who knows what he'll play like by this time. Schenn I think has the potential to balance his game out. I believe he will become a much better offensive player comparable to B class stars like Carter and Richards who are still damn good players. I also believe Schenn should be killing penalties but he hasn't really seen PK time since his first season. Keep in mind Schenn is newly 23 I think. Factoring age, I know it would hurt the team to lose Read but if your getting a 24 year old Bogosian, I would have to really think about the pros and cons. |

I personally see Read as a more important player for the Flyers to keep the B Schenn. I think he's a good player that is going to get better, but I think Read is a more valuable player to the team. The only issue I see is if Schenn is a potential LW, it would leave the team even weaker at LW.

I'm not going to list all the injuries Bogosian has had back to 2008 but the list is longer. Not trying to get into a pissing match here. - Streit2ThePoint
That list is Bogosian. |

I get a kick out of reading that the Flyers weren't able to do anything because of how Holmgren left Hextall hamstrung. Regardless of how people feel about the player, MacDonald was simply an early acquisition to preempt the free agent market. They also re-signed Emery, added Del Zotto and Ryan White. So if they had waited until the free agent period to acquire MacDonald, the complainers would be happy about the off season? Probably not!

I don't see B Schenn ever putting up an 80 point season like Richards did. But I could be wrong. And I don't see Schenn equaling Carter as a goal scorer in this league either. He does not possess the skating or the lethal wrist shot that Carter has. I also don't see the defensive awareness or acumen to make me suggest playing Schenn on the PK.
I understand the youth issue. But I think Read is too important to the Flyers.

I know! Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Schenn, Simmonds, Raffl, Read, Mason, MacDonald, Luke Schenn. Just horrendous. I have no idea why Hextall took the job!

Hes ok. There's nothing about his game that is standing out right now. Not much speed, average size, average passing, decent shot, below average positioning, he still goes for the big hit a little much. He took a step in improving his defensive game, but still has a ways to go in that department. Saw a lot of offensive zone starts and sheltered minutes, but to his credit he was moved around the lineup quite a bit.
20 goals yes, vinny potted 20 too. 2.5 you could argue is on the high side, but everyone is looking forward to his upcoming year - Just5
15 goals for a forward will get you $3M per year. |
