Out of morbid curiosity, can you name any contracts that the Flyers currently have that you would call bad contracts? - jmatchett383
Nope! Homey don't do bad contracts. |

Wrap arounds worked too if you knew how to do it. Right hand shot from left side or right hand shot from left side always worked well too |

The problem is he's signed for 5 more years at over $5M per year. Yes, IF he stays healthy and IF he turns into what his projection was, he's a big upgrade. However, IF he does not, he's just another bad, overpriced contract. So I'd say that right now, his contract is not reasonable for a dman of his caliber, it's more for the hoping what kind of dman he will become...which he may or may not ever become.
The fact that we'd have to give up value and hope that he stays healthy and becomes a #1 defenseman (which he has yet to show signs of) makes me very gun shy. - jmatchett383
But i'll take those ifs on a 24 year old. Its not like he is 29 or 30. Right now MacDonald has 5.5 cap hit and he is essentially our 3rd pair dman with Schenn. The contract isn't a bad deal and if the cap keeps going up it just makes it better. I am ok taking my chance to get that potential future dman. We keep wanting one and might be the chance to grab someone who could be that guy |

I think I play NHL14 the way that NHL hits is supposed to be played. Shea Weber and Chris Pronger have never attempted a poke check for me. |

We did that with Luke Schenn (who was just 2 picks behind him) who's turned out to be an NHL defenseman, but never blossomed. We gave up a young budding star forward for him. I'm not ready to do that again for a guy who's only 24 yet is injury prone, has yet to put up close to "star" numbers, and is signed to a hefty deal. If he was a UFA, then maybe. But I'm not keen on giving up hard assets for him. |

I think BoGo is pretty much Braydon Coburn. He has the potential to be much more than Coburn, but that's also what we thought when we got Coburn (if you guys follow what I'm saying). - jmatchett383
And the Flyers only gave up Alexei Zhitnik for Coburn.
I understand the market is different now, but just because the market is different doesn't mean you have to just give away assets for no reason. |

I think Luke is different then Bogosian. I think Bogosian is more all-around thyen Luke. Yes we gave up JVR who looks good but also was replaceable. Look at what guys like Simmonds and Voracek and Simmonds have done with more ice time. Also schenn I don't think was scene as a future number one. Bogosian i think has the potential to be a franchise guy. Yes being healthy is key but at 24 i'll take that risk. Espcially if we plan to let our prospects season in the minors. Get bogosian and next year you can draft a forward. BUt then you can start to build a solid d group. You could have Bogosian, Coburn, Ghostisbeher, Haag, Morin, Alt possibly. I think forwards are asier to get then d so I am ok making that move this year if available. |

First of all, the Flyers only have 1 Simmonds. Typo, I'm sure.
Secondly, both players were seen as #1 guys when they were drafted. You don't draft a guy 5th overall to be a 2nd pair player. Neither player has lived up to his billing as of yet. Bogosian had one really good year in juniors, was rushed to the NHL. Taking all of that into account, along with his injuries and price tag, makes me stay away unless we're getting immediate improvement. I don't think that he's an immediate upgrade to our roster. I'd rather keep both Schenn's. |

strictly looking at statistics, this is very true.
I posted Bogo linemates over the last 4 years because outside of Enstrom, he has never gotten to play with anyone as good as Kimo.
if he came here and played with coburn, it could be a VERY good combo. |

At the time of the trade, Zhitnik was still widely seen as a viable #2-3, all-situations guy. He put in 14 pts in 18 games post-trade.
I don't think I've ever seen another player's career end with such a thud before. In hindsight, it looks terrible for ATL, but at the time, it was a pretty decent hockey trade for them. |

Compared to Shea Weber, everyone is a welp. That includes Hulk Hogan, God, Slap Chop Vince, Chara, and the combined assets of The United States Air Force. |
