It's my understanding that he is a boat anchor with every woman he has ever dated and can't quite hold onto a relationship.
Some women have referred to their time with him as a "black hole" of time and space.

I hear you, but during most, if not all of his time here, they have sorely lacked talented right handed shooting dmen.
Heck, I could be wrong, but I just think he would be better on his natural side. - BiggE
It's possible, sure.

More importantly are we comparing Steve Mason to Ed Belfour? - psuhockey
why not? belfour was good, but mason has attributes belfour didn't have. i also think it was easier to stand out as a goalie back then, because a lot of them were , which benefited belfour. there's very little that separates goalies now....most of them are really talented. |

I can certainly understand that. It just seems that when Schenn has played his best as a Flyer, it's when he gets a lot of ice time and skates with a mobile partner.
Assuming he comes into camp in top shape, I just think that he and Coburn could be a nice shut down pair. Neither brings much offense, but Coburn is perhaps the only Flyer dman who can skate the puck out of the zone and Schenn makes a nice first pass to get the puck out as well.

To add more perspective on Recchi,
The job Barber did during that time is debatable. What is not debatable is Barbers standing in the game of hockey. He is a HOF and an organizational icon. The way some of the players reacted after that playoff was reprehensible. Barbers wife was dying of cancer during that time. He never said a word about it.
As Jsaq noted on the last thread, there were sveral players involved but Primeau took ownership for his role something Recchi never did. My issue with Recchi has always been about character, not talent. Hes a great player, a HOF in his own right, but, to me, hes not a Flyer. - KINGKENZO
Are you guys seriously still talking about this on a brand new blog?
Clarke vs. Lindros, who was the douche of that situation? Maybe we could ask Dave Babych for the answer. The Recchi hatred is stupid.
I don't expect Nickelback to get into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and I'm not in love with them but they're clearly a talented band. To me, it's like someone one day said "Hey, I hate Nickolback" and then others followed because it sounds cool to say so. Using my own head and my own thinking, I think Van Halen is a horrid band but to each their own. |

Based on the amount of scoring chances he faced, I'd say watching the games proves how good he actually was compared to looking at stats (advanced or otherwise). On a shot-to-shot basis, he was as good as most goalies, and I think he actually outplayed Lundqvist in the playoffs. - jmatchett383
He did hit a rough patch in the middle of the season. I'm very satisfied with the Mason though. He's signed to a nice deal and has shown that he's going to be a tremendous asset moving forward.
This team's got 99 problems and a starting goalie ain't one |

Love Mason as much as anybody, but I think his legend has steadily grown to out-sized proportions over the summer, lol. - Tomahawk
perhaps, but there's little reason to believe he'll regress. he's been nothing but consistent since arriving at the end of 2013. he's matured on and off the ice. i'm thrilled to have him because i believe he'll be a long term stabilizer in goal that the team desperately needs. |

I agree, no reason why the Flyers can't be a solid playoff team. Certainly there are things that would certainly help, such as Lecavalier bouncing back, and Timonen getting cleared and healthy enough to play. - MJL
Agreed. I'm just hoping Vinnie has been listening because I want him training like his hair is on fire. I want him coming to camp with something to prove. Through all these issues he has been a total professional, now I kinda want to see him get mad and push himself to prove people wrong.
But I think Kimmo is done. Or I kind of hope. My family has lost someone to a blood clot, years after it happened, and I really don't want Kimmo's family going through that. So I kinda want him to take a page outta Pronger's book and get well for his family, not hockey. |

Its not like Mason has been good for stretches and not so good for other stretches. He has been consistently solid since he put on the Flying P. Barring an injury I have no reason to believe he wont continue to be solid.
Goaltending is the LEAST of our worries, regardless of what Jeremy Roenick says.

Definitely. He's a top-30 NHL goaltender... that's not something they've had going back a long ways. As far as where he ranks amongst his peers, I'd say #15-20 in the league. There's just so many good ones these days, it's not a knock on him. |

I think Mason's good enough to get us where we need to go.
He's got some winning to do yet, and that's not to be understated -- nothing matters until you win enough hockey games to make even ardent critics acknowledge that you're getting the job done.
But that guy...that guy's a good goalie, man. I'm not saying that because I just like the Flyers. I'm saying that because I watch a (frank)-ton of hockey, and that guy looks like a different player since he came to the Flyers. I've seen NOTHING in that guy's game to make me believe he's going to start getting strafed now.
