It seems ridiculous given the number of forwards signed in Ottawa. |

I sure hope not. We don't need anymore Filatov, Latendresse, etc, low risk, high reward experiments. We seem to have bad luck with those. |

if you want some prospect stuff, i enjoyed this:
http://the6thsens.com/201...rafted-nhl-prospects.html - Travis Yost
What's really impressive about the Senators' drafting is the prospect depth. If you consider just players who either still played the majority of their time in the AHL last year or were in development leagues, they have at least 20 players who could very well play NHL games in the next few years. That said, it's time for the team to stop clogging up roster spots, and letting some of this depth develop at the NHL level - because the contracts for players like Michalek, Neil, and Greening are starting to carry severe opportunity costs, and they're just going to continue to bleed prospects if they don't start providing them with more genuine opportunity to prove themselves.

Here's a few player faceoffs where I would like to see where people think more value lies. Simply pick the player you would rather keep / has more value than the other to the Sens all things considered. Just imagine if they were being traded for equal packages (a 2nd round pick; a 1st + 2nd, etc). If you had to pick one player over the other:
a) Colin Greening or Erik Condra
b) Alex Chiasson or Mark Stone
c) Kyle Turris or Curtis Lazar
d) Jared Cowen or Marc Methot
e) Mika Zibanejad or Robin Lehner |

If the average shot in that game against Anaheim is 28 ft. and
if, we know that the defensive responsibility for that range of shot falls directly to the center coming back to control the passing zones (triangle) in front of the net.
You have to wonder how many goals was Turris on the ice? Answer 1, but he scored it, he came out of that debacle +1. |

Agree 100% regarding Mathieu Perrault. The guy has HUGE brass but his body can't take the punishment that goes along with it. The Jets are getting a ballsy center, I just hope he stays healthy for them. |

What's the point with all this? Every player from b) down are pluses to this team. Condra is way better than Greening; however, both are very much expendable. If and only if this team isn't where it is come December-January, both those guys (+Neil, Legwand, Phillips) will be dealt to others for picks/low-level prospects. |

At the July 1st end of day presser Murray said they made a play for a younger player that they were interested in but that he went for more than they had expected. For some reason I really think it was for Perrault. |

b) Alex Chiasson or Mark Stone (maybe this is due to Stone being more familiar)
c) Kyle Turris or Curtis Lazar (really tough one, but got to go with the proven talent and not just potential)
d) Jared Cowen or Marc Methot (worth the risk as I think Methot can be replaced fairly easily, but Cowen could be a beast and a rare commodity)
e) Mika Zibanejad or Robin Lehner - AlfieisKing
In bold are my picks. |

a) Colin Greening or Erik Condra - Condra is just more useful
b) Alex Chiasson or Mark Stone - I think Chiasson is underestimated
c) Kyle Turris or Curtis Lazar - Turris is already part of the team's core
d) Jared Cowen or Marc Methot - Cowen has too much potential
e) Mika Zibanejad or Robin Lehner - Lehner has strong #1 potential
I'll also put forward a few more options, for those who like this kind of thing...
Turris or Zibanejad
Cowen or Lazar
Wiercioch or Ceci
Methot or MacArthur
Hoffman or Gryba |

Great read as per usual Travis.
That early road trip out west last season was a very tough way to start the season. LA ended up winning the Cup & Anaheim was a contender as well.
The upcoming season seems to be a little more generous. We start 3 games on the road against Nashville Tampa & Florida. I think the Bolts could win the east this season but IMO the Preds & Panthers look to be bottom feeders in the thier conf.
Then we head home for a 4 game stretch against Colorado, Columbus, Toronto & New Jersey. I think the 3 from the east hear are a bubble team as well as we are.
If we could start say 2-1 on the road, then 3-1 at home that'd be a good start to the season at 5 - 2
I think we'll know early on what type of year this young Sens team is going to bring to the table. Looking forward to the start of the season

That was my initial thought, but the terms Murray used, I think he said "young", made me think differently. Pouliot isn't that old, but not a player I'd qualify with the word young. It was just a hunch, I'm probably wrong. |

Yeah, but truly young guys can't even get to UFA status.
27 is the "youngest" you can be as a UFA unless you start playing before you're 20 - Pouliot did not. |
