This is a character signing and not a talent signing - he's a depth guy. They did this with Big Country when everyone thought he didn't deserve it and when the going got tough he showed his worth - especially in the NYR playoff series and that was a good deal for us.
Boro will be a cowd favorite, he's a team first guy and we need guys like that.
I also think there is something going on in the background here - maybe some bad news coming so they sign the local kid who fights as a precursor to a trade or something weird happening.

They gave Carkner two years at just $700k AAV after playing a full season. - Travis Yost
He was also 28 and that was 5 years ago when 700k was $1.1 million - Murray loves his Dman that aren't afriad of corners and fighting - big country, Jason Smith, Luc Richardsson, that goofy guy with the big red hair - this is a Murray type of player |

I deleted that because he was actually signed mid-season, not full.
But separately, Ottawa also didn't have a logjam on their roster like they do now. And, again, one less year........ |

Methot or Weircohe is my guess - most likely Methot if a team really likes him. |

Yost, I thought you'd be interested to hear that Paul Beirne (Sens Executive VP of ticketing) whom you referenced a while back, is no longer with the Sens, I'm not sure when it happened but he appears to have been relieved of his duties. Jeff Kyle their VP Marketing, also left the team a few months ago and didn't appear to have left for another job. Was it performance based or simply a matter of trimming salary.

I'm OK if Methot get's traded simply because I don't want to see him signed long term to a $5.5M+ deal. Plus maybe we can get a 1st for him and a prospect from a team like Detroit.
The D core minus (or heck even with) Methot is going to be pretty bad. One thing's for sure is that games will be high scoring! |

Paul got a job working for an English Premiership team.
But, there was a huge overhaul in the ticketing department. |

I just can't see Gryba having any big value unless you're the Montreal Canadiens and saw his hit turn that series around. I like him but I;m sure you can grab a Gryba off of waivers from a team somewhere in pre-season |

I'm going to give management the benefit of the doubt and assume they have something up their sleeves. Otherwise, there really is no sense in this move. Actually, even if there is a move on the table, there is no sense in this.
One thing I'll say is that the senators are giving us plenty of mind bending decisions to try to wrap our heads around.
Is there any other team whose fans are made to feel the highs of great signings/deals and then, almost instantly, feel the burn of absolute lows??? |

Gryba is utterly replaceable. Can't imagine many teams are salivating at the prospect of his inclusion in a trade... |

This team should really tank the season for Mcdavid or Eichel |

This has been kept quiet in Ottawa for while but apparently last June after the draft Borowiecki had his brain replaced with Brian Leetch's brain - I think this can help explain this signing. |

Sens do not make a lot of bad moves. But, this is perplexing! If, for example, they moved Phillips the signing of Borowiecki makes sense in terms of dollars. But, the three years makes no sense to me at all. |

Methot, Weircoch and Greening for O'Reilly. Our defense will stank but our forwards will be pretty awesome defensively. |

The only, ONLY way this makes even a lick of sense is if they already have a trade worked out to send out another blueliner and maybe someone else with the same qualities they see in Boro.
Maybe a Chris Neil + Weircioch/Cowen/Methot deal? |

But even then.. why sign Boro before the trade ?? this guy has 21 NHL games under his belt. hasnt been overwhelming in them either. he's what 25 years old. Now we have him locked up for 4 more seasons.
Im with you guys on this one though, a trade must be made shortly.
the last 2 times i had this feeling about a signing was with Greening & Philips extensions |
