At least wait for THIS season's performance stats to come in before we judge the results of this contract. We're prejudging him based on previous season performances when in reality each year brings new results and new revelations about a player's ability and maturity. Negative nelly's to the max degree here today.

Guys, it's 1.1M. Who cares.
I know as Sens fans we are used to counting every penny because we know our owner is a cheap ass.
That said, I don't think his contract is going to affect whether we resign Ryan, MacArthur, Methot or Anderson.
At the end of the day, this is typical summer news. During the season, no one would care. The guy got some money. Good for him. - Charliebox
this is what Leaf fans said...except it was 7 years and 36.75 million |

I like boro's game... he's probably going to be our most responsible defenseman as far as making the right/smart/safe/simple play in our end. His game is comparable to volchenkovs back when he was still good
Boro does not let players cross our blueline without thinking about it first... step up from phillips mentality for sure |

Only 1.1?
WE BROKE!!
Our team has a freakin budget!
So while this deal may be small..it affects our internal budget for next season!
And Boro has only played like 20 games at the nhl lvl.
Pretty much got the same deal as Gryba.

I'm OK if Methot get's traded simply because I don't want to see him signed long term to a $5.5M+ deal. Plus maybe we can get a 1st for him and a prospect from a team like Detroit.
The D core minus (or heck even with) Methot is going to be pretty bad. One thing's for sure is that games will be high scoring! - riceroni
I doubt it. Wings already have enough defensemen and unless the Sens were taking Quincey or Kindl back, no way it would happen. Also can't see Holland dealing a 1st round pick for him. Wings might have had a use for him if Quincey had been let go but now they are stuck with him for 2 more seasons and their need is for a right handed PP defenseman not a stay at home lefty. |

Hopefully something to that effect, or a new arena being built downtown which Euge has been saving his pennies for.... |

I think that's the problem? - Travis Yost
It is when you assume 2013-14 will lead to the same results as 2014-15. Players train, adjust their games and their approach with each new year. I just don't see how signing someone making what will be almost a league minimum salary by the time the deal expires is a bad move, if anything like Turris' deal it means the team won't pay out above market value in the event he has a very productive level of output over the course of his contract, especially when we acknowledge that he is only a depth signing and/or trade bait. |

Lot of truth in this. Makes it a little harder to claim him off waivers. |

Well, look how happy we were with the Cowen contract after his great first season. At least with low levels of salary you piss off fewer people after the fact. |

Senators will earn more than $40m in broadcast fees this year. The broadcast footprint is huge. Surprised to see RDS has taken a large chunk of games. Where does Eugene spend the money? |

I really hope not, I just went through 8 years of that BS cheering for Arsenal in the Premier League, led to them selling off all their best players to finance the stadium and now the guy that used to be my fav player, Cesc Fabregas, now plays for one of their biggest rivals at Chelsea...I'll just stop there. |

Amazing if you're in Ottawa... though I'm assuming that this 'TSN-5' will be just like those regional Sportsnet channels that were supposedly broadcast "nationally", except for every bit of local content that would make having those channels remotely interesting. I don't really need 5 more channels of time-zone-specific multi-hour Sportscentre re-runs. If anything, I'm guessing that the quality of what RDS will provide nationally will also be compromised in the process, because that used to be the best way to watch some Senators games out West. Hopefully Rogers figures out a way to get more actual national exposure for the Senators this year. |

How many more contracts for crap players does the team need to make to make people realize we are wasting money? This one deal isn't terrible. What is terrible is the pattern of questionable extensions to our mediocre players.
Neil - 1.9 mill
Greening - 2.65 mill
Phillips - 2.5 mill
Gryba - 1.25 mill
Boro - 1.1 mill
Thats roughly 9 million dollars between 5 guys who wouldn't make other NHL teams. Couldn't that money be spent elsewhere? |

I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I hate this deal is because it basically guarantees that a better dman than Boro will get traded to make a roster spot to accommodate this extension.
Boro is 25 and has exactly 21 games of nhl experience, and because he's cheap, the Sens will extend him and move methot or wiercioch cuz they make, and deserve, more. |
|
|
|
No doubt it's Methot going. As with anyone who wants big money from Ottawa.
This will continue until the Sens get a new owner or some financial help.
Anderson, then Ryan and eventually Mr. Wonderful will get fed up and ask for a trade.
There's two things that motivate hockey players; $ and winning.
Right now, Ottawa can't provide either. |

Methot is overrated just like Kuba was when he played with Kalrsson - I could play with Karlsson, Methot struggled last year because Karlsson struggled, Methot is the most overrated player on our team. |

we need to sign that grant guy at the bottom
2 games........2 shots........2 goals
but to your point, that list of comparables is ridiculous......makes this deal look even more ridiculous than it already does. |
