Methot is overrated just like Kuba was when he played with Kalrsson - I could play with Karlsson, Methot struggled last year because Karlsson struggled, Methot is the most overrated player on our team. - tuna99
while i agree that methot isn't a top pairing d-man, he's not overrated. he's a very good top 4 d-man, and is head and shoulders better than all but maybe 2 other d-men on our team.
i hope you aren't trying to suggest that boro might realistically be a replacement for meth, cuz if you are............. |

I live close enough to Vancouver' Downtown Eastside to know that very few things are realistically a replacement for meth.
Trade rumours aside, the only other positive spin I can think of is that the team might be interested in converting Borowiecki into a 4th line crash winger who could take on some of Neil's enforcement duty. Otherwise, he really seems like something of an 'outdoor toy', who at best could develop into a modern-day Shane Hnidy.

He;s not a replacement for Methot but Cowen could be and with Philly and Weircoche on that LD I think that's your top 4.
Lot;s of rumours of Burmistorv coming back to the NHL, maybe Murray talked so much about Evander Kane maybe it turned into Burmistov for Methot or Weircoche? |

cowen and phillips were BY FAR the 2 worst d-men on our team last year........and you could probably make a pretty convincing argument showing that they were 2 of the worst in the entire league......and those are the two you're putting in our top 4?
and both wiercioch and methot are both an ass-ton more than burmistrov, who is essentially a taller version of filatov |

Cowen is going to be given the chance to play in the Top 4, which makes sense as thats what he's supposed to be. They'll be hoping he can rebound.
Phillips should never sees any top 4 minutes. |

cowen may or may not develop into a top 4.......still no justification to trade methot or extend borowiecki |

they need him to shadow neil as head fighter. neil is done soon and people can't mess with karl. everyone seems to be against this signing... but he deserves a bit of cash because toronto has like 5 goons and boro is going to have to fight them all, all the time once neil is gone. no one wants that job! |

which goons do the leafs have......mclaren is gone, and orr probably gets little to no ice time next year, unless it's in the AHL. |

Forbes last year published a list of local tv broadcast revenues earned by the top 10 team earners. I have played a bit with the numbers to take into account the new TV deals with NBC and Rogers. There has also been the new local deals with Montreal and Ottawa. Almost every team has a new long term deal except for Toronto. So, there should not be significant changes in the list except for the other Canadian teams (see note below). The current Leaf deal ends this year and they will certainly exceed $100m in total broadcast revenues starting next year.
One other factor that I was not aware of that is really important. The new Rogers TV deal has a Canadian bias in the form of invasion fees. As best I understand it each Canadian teams get a 5% share of the Rogers payout, each US team gets 2.82% of the total. Means Canadian teams get anywhere from $7m to 10m more per team per year from the Rogers deal. For this exercise I have added the local broadcast money plus the NBC fee ($6m per team) plus the Rogers fee ($17m for each Canadian team and $10m for each US based team). Broadcast revenues for next year are as follows.
Montreal. $91m
Toronto. $64m
Ottawa. $56m
NYR. $51m
Vancouver. $48m
Detroit. $46m
NYI. $40m
NJ. $40m
Dallas. $40m
LA. $40m
Pittsburgh. $31m
I do not have any data for the other Canadian teams but I am pretty certain they might also break into the top 10.
So, does anybody have any idea what Eugene is doing with the money he is going to get this year? |

we need to sign that grant guy at the bottom
2 games........2 shots........2 goals
but to your point, that list of comparables is ridiculous......makes this deal look even more ridiculous than it already does. - sensarmy_11
We did!
On March 5, 2014, Grant was traded to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for minor league right winger Andre Petersson |

thats true actually, i'll admit defeat there. but neil IS gone soon and i'd rather have boro *try take over rather then resort to another kassian heavy slow type |

Yeah, I remember him playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs, I think he's actually a half decent prospect even now, Dmen taking longer to develop and all that sort of thing. |

Yeah.. and Atlantic Canada is in their broadcast zone, i am thrilled about this. - corbechev
Regional footprint of 12.7m residents including broadcasts in both english and french. This really is a very ambitious play by Bell Media through TSN and RDS. Canadiens french language footprint is similar. Leaf footprint is about 9.7m residents, Vancouver is about 4.4m.
Size of footprint is superb. But what really matters now is penetration (ratings). |

Yep, super pumped, means my Sens coverage will be better, if anything, between the national rogers broadcasts and the regional TSN ones.
I agree with Spats, too, I think this is a big move by Bell and a good one for the Senators organization.
I know a big part of why I became a Sens fan was due to the fact that I could watch a huge portion of the games where I'm at on a relatively low cost cable package (or a little better than basic) |
