ALS affects so few people, World hunger and Cancer affects a billion people
- VANTEL

I think the majority of people realize that. This is a fad to raise awareness and earn some extra revenue. This time next year people will be giving back to the traditional organizations. As bad as that sounds, it's true.

I take solace in the fact that Canadians are some of the most philanthropic peoples in the world. So much so that we're discussing charities on a hockey forum haha. [/img]

Unfortunately the guy who started it didn't have cancer and wasn't hungry, he has ALS and he has done a great job of raising awareness and money for his disease. If you think you are annoyed now, wait until every other charity starts piggybacking on this trend of stupid challenges

Canadians are very generous and as they should be. We live in the best country in the world and are very fortunate. We should be sharing the wealth.

Back to hockey but feed a child also.

Mine also is plan Canada , Canucks place and the local food bank.

Just to prove that all charities are businesses at the end of the day. I used to work for plan canada as a canvasser when I was 19. If I could sign up 4-5 people a week, I would earn around 28$/ hour.

Here's a fun fact, Kevin Bieksa's brother also works for Plan Canada. He's one of the highest earners there.

I feel sorry for the less known charities and diseases , they are forgotten. The thing I am trying to point out we should all be giving, because we do have a lot. Give all the time not only when there is a camera in front of someone.

I can not control people taking from the poor. I do know you can feed a FAMILY in the Philippines for 50 dollars a month.

Anytime someone raises money for charity its a good thing I don't care if it's dumb they are raising tons of money to help others that's all that matters.

I think he wants him out of the top 6, I don't know anyone who wants him in the top 6.

Then what is the point of keeping him around? Let one of the kids play on the 3rd line.

So Yesterday was Virtanen's birthday, and it is still shocking he has so much size for his age at 18.

Does anybody know what cut off is for a player being eligible for next years draft??

As Jack eichel is only like a month and half older.

Yeah I can't stand that fabio head whip he does with his hair. But I still think he will be a good player.

Also leaf fans were pretty stoked when some guy from ESPN rated Nylander as the fourth best prospect currently not playing in the NHL. Which I will NEVER understand.

But I am guessing it is some time in September for the cut-off. I think Virtanen would probably be rated like top 4 if he was a couple of months older and was put into next years class.

What are realistic expectations of Daniel? 25g 60pts? Too much?
- hillbillydeluxe

I would expect 55-65 for him yes...pretty bang on, but I think 25G will be a stretch, I think if Vrbata is healthy he'll do 30-40G and Hank will get 10 or so more points than Danny.

I would be hoping for 25 goals from any of our first liners including Hank.

I would hope he's gonna be ~ a 60 point guy, very acceptable in my books!! Firmly believe he'll be better coached in terms of managing his minutes and role within the team.

Or how about the homeless? I know cancer and other diseases affect millions of people but just imagine what it's like not to have a place to go to, have no family or friends. To have to sleep on the street, when it's freezing cold or raining, somehow getting through winter. And having to most likely deal with violence and likely some sort of drug/alcochol or psychological issues.

The two charities I support are involved with the homeless and animal shelters

But any time, funds, or effort to help people out, whether cancer or ALS or otherwise, is a good thing.

Peg Daniel in for 25+ (although concussion issues - especially for players in their 30's - are quite serious). Thank you @##$@$ instigator rule. This is what happens to top players when 3rd or 4th line @##$@ weasels know there won't be any repercussions for their actions.

Nicely done - same here. My wife and I have made more of an effort to donate not just money, but our time as well. Last Christmas we took all of the money we normally spend on gifts for everyone, walked into Toys r Us and spent it all on toys for Ronald McDonald House. We've been volunteering more often, mostly at the soup kitchens during brutal Toronto winter days. Working with Animal Shelters is next on the list for us.

On a hockey note, did you know that Sidney Crosby is the best defensive forward in the game? You learn something new every day on the Pens boards.

(frank) the homeless... 90% of the homeless are homeless because of self inflicted causes. Tons of programs for these guys to get jobs and low income housing set up and they are rarely used to the fullest. There are legitimate situations where I can feel for some of these people but it is rare. I would much rather give my money to an animal shelter, or a local charity like Ronald Mcdonald House where you can see your dollar going a long way. IMO
