You are comparing yourself to David Suzuki?... I used stats and figures to shut up someone who knows very little on the subject.
Awesome analogy though!!!! - kneughter
85% of stats are arbitrarily fabricated. Didn't you learn that in psych101? |

There are a lot of people living cheque to cheque and then something happens where it all unravels.
Everyone making less than 35k should not have to pay income tax.
I remember a couple years ago it really pissed me off to see some fat old cat in an office saying how great it was that retirement age got pushed back and it keeps his brain sharp. And I'm thinking, what if your job was manual labour or entails physical work and your body is shot by the age of 60?
Everyone has their own cross to bear and they carry their load differently, everyone has stuff going on. You can't walk a mile in someone else's shoes. impossible. life scars you. these scars aren't always easy to see.
I can't imagine living on the street. you live in a different world. people look at you differently. - hillbillydeluxe
Therein lies part of the stigma. That people pretty much look through/past them when you encountered on the street. It's just another element which 'adds' to the whole process. These people feel completely alienated and with nowhere to turn, or maybe they would like to seek help but they have fallen through the cracks, in a system which is barely functionable. Or, as indicated earlier, they are in so much pain/despair that they just no longer care as long as they get their fix
(I think re-writing the tax code so it would at least be proportionately equal/fare with respect to aiming to become more equitable based on your earnings power. It's a good idea. Do you really have to have 10 BMWs? just how much does a person need to live a very luxurious/quality life?) |

HOMELESSNESS AND MENTAL ILLNESS
The link between homelessness and mental illness is well documented (1):
30-35% of individuals who are homeless have a mental illness
Up to 75% of homeless women specifically, have a mental illness
Having a safe place to live is a vital component of stabilizing the illness and helping those individuals on their journey to recovery
In Ontario (2):
6,100 people sleep in shelters every night
2,013 of those have a mental illness
Another 1,220 have an additional concurrent disorder
People with serious mental illness are disproportionately affected by homelessness. Homelessness tends to increase stress, anxiety and depression, and therefore creates additional hardship for people with mental illness.
Here's some stats to shut you up.

Well you said you took one class (like I said = me) and that gives you (me) the right to tell David Suzuki (you) how the environment works. So in essence you were comparing your knowledge in homelessness to that of DS knowledge in the environment |

Rather than a direct analogy, it was more of a hyperbolic, outlandish statement designed to illustrate how ridiculous your original nonsensical statement was. But, thank you for your analysis. |

Can we discuss beer flavours instead of homelessness? It's a much nicer more inviting subject. |

No I didn't, my thoughts are he'd have to really perform poorly to not make the team. |
