Very difficult to come to some sort of monetary figure which would represent the amount of earnings Moore would have made. I guess that's part of the reason for such a lengthy delay in bringing this to trial (and of course lawyer's lifetime country club and high end escort fees)

As far as this entire situation goes, I think this incident will always polarize people due to its many elements and controversy, especially as relates to the whole issue of 'predetermination'. Yet, anyone who's played a fast, rough sport knows just how quickly things can unravel, how little time you have to make any sort of decision, and most of all, not to have emotion dictate any part of your actions/reactions within that time-frame.

Frankly, the constraint the vast majority of players show is remarkable considering how violent this sport is, and how quickly the heat of battle can overtake even the calmest of individuals (yes, deep I know)

As such, I can see both sides of the situation. I certainly wish Moore the best and that this allows him to finally move on with his life. Likewise, with Bertuzzi, who hasn't been the same player (and person, I would imagine) that he was before that horrible evening changed things for everyone.

You certainly couldn't argue that Bertuzzi was having a fantastic career to that point. In fact, the word Bertuzzi and Hall of Fame were not so far-fetched based on just how good he had become (and was still getting better in terms of his skating and puck control/decision making - even playmaking), one of the league's premier power-forwards - even making a case for being one of the history's elite at that position.

And just like that, in a split second everything turned upside down. It was a tragic event for all involved and, as I noted earlier, I would just like to see the page turned on this dark moment in hockey.

Very well put. I wholeheartedly agree.

It's amazing the stupidity of some of the protesters that are just trying to start physical confrontations then people wonder why police are wearing riot gear.

They've said that a lot of people from the outlying counties are the ones that are most responsible for the violence and riots, coming into that jurisdiction and looting, destructing property, and trying to keep fueling the violence.

Yeah dude... there are so many things wrong with the current system in both the US and Canada. It is hard to be properly punished when you are a police officer.. and the corruption is rampant in most areas. But things are escalating to sad levels because of how the local residents are reacting. It could have been much more peaceful if both sides could have just been smart.

Apparent 1 in 4 of the protestors arrested are not from the area. It's kinda like the Stanley Cup riots; all it takes is a few baconheads who think they have the right to poop disturb and just unnesscarily throw fuel onto an already temperamental situation.

Them and Havards Grads, they make me so

Reminds me of SC riots here.... non-locals may have contributed and even initiated but local residents did majority of the damage. Same thing seems to be happening in Ferguson

Details are already starting to leak out. Moore nets $22m with Bert only coughing up about $2-3m.

Not bad for a guy who would have been a career AHLer. And nobody starting about poor widdle Steve Moore. This is a prime reason to get rid of the instigator rule. If little weasels like this were held accountable for dangerous hits by knowing the fear of goon retribution. No way would guys like him would be throwing gutless hits like he laid on Naslund, or Cooke on Savard, or Richards on Booth.

Someone should have done the same to Duncan Keith after he laid that hit on Daniel.

I posted this on the last thread.
This kid was 10 when this was done he's 14 now, from Argentina.

Was not expecting that. From his look and his guitar, I was expecting a thrashing Yngwie Malmsteen, but instead got a jazzy, scotch swilling Lenny Breau type.

Good player, ugly guitar.

If Bert is only paying 2-3 are the Canucks paying the rest?
- A_SteamingLombardi

It wouldn't surprise me if the NHL were quietly paying some of the settlement (non-disclosure). The last thing they would want is for this trial to be dominating the sports news headlines for the first 4 months of the season. Not good for business. They, like just about everyone else on the planet wanted Steve Moore to just go away.

They should have paid him his yearly salary for 4 years. His top earned income x the length of the average NHL'r.

This (frank)ing weasel is an embarrassment. Granato should also get sued wtf was he thinking putting out a 4th line scrub in a 9-2 game, where the other team had swore revenge against that very player. Somehow that gets overlooked. Bertuzzi should counter sue for harassment and defamation as well... He was an elite player when Moore first went to sue, the yearly law suites took their to.

The incident was extremely unfortunate for all parties involved but give your head a shake trying to vilify Moore. If Moore didn't play in that game the bad blood would of persisted, Moore I'm pretty sure did fight someone during that game and afterwards was challenged repeatedly when the game was out of hand. Moore made a bad decision on the naslund hit but it was no where close to kieth on sedin. If there had been a suspension on Moore or the game didn't get so lopsided bertuzzi \crawford wouldn't of been looking for more blood. Unfortunately it played out with berttrying to get another shot in which led to Moore breaking his neck. It wasn't Bert's punch that did the damage it was the two guys falling on top of him. It was a preventible incident but it was also very unlucky, I hope Moore , Bert and everyone involved can move on with their lives now.

Remember, the kid is 10. That guitar is probably the coolest thing that kid has ever seen. Probably begged his parents to buy it for him. When he's in his 20s he'll look back and go

He's the youngest Gibson sponsored player in their history.

What a gong show. The Moore camp is playing the media like a fiddle. Typical Ivy League weasel tactics...
